Thank you for the suggestion. I am considering it, actually, but I wonder: if a member has a question about the notice sent, is he/she supposed to start a different topic, not being allowed to reply to the special noice?

I know that this has been discussed before, but still...

I would rather see the link for Groups Home be restored to this one.
I vigorously disagree - That link to the message I use frequently, and it is essentially the only footer link I ever use!

I would think people who want to reply online would also read online.
Possibly, but I'm not normally using it to reply.

Often I'm just copying the link so that I can cite the message to others. Or I'm using it to throw a "Like" on the message, or to read the message in the context of its topic. That said, I don't want to have the topic form of the link instead. That is, I don't want:
https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/21406310#17402
because that would cloud my use for citation (and it is longer).

Having a link to the Home page, gets them to everything.
So does the link to the message.

“Unsubscribe" seems clearer to me than “Leave.”
Agreed, even though "Unsubscribe" is longer and awkward it is familiar.

Unless "Leave" is part of some some newly standardized lexicon among list providers and mailbox providers. Or unless there's reason to believe that "Leave" is better understood by less experienced users.

“Unsubscribe" seems clearer to me than “Leave.” And the command is [group]+unsubscribe@groups.io, right? Introducing a new word could be confusing.

I would love to see a “help” link but they can easily find this if they can go to the group home easily.

My thought as to what I would like, and consider as the ideal situaton:

When a message is sent (i.e. goes through the groups.io system) as a special message (however this was triggered) a tag (or other marker) should added saying #This_Was_Sent_As_Special_Message, or word(s) to that effect. If a message is sent as a not special message with that tag, then it should be removed.

If the trigger to a message being sent as a special message is a tag (#Send_This_As_Special_Message), then that tag should be removed as it goes through the system (so that tag will never be on a received message), and replaced by the #This_Was_Sent_As_Special_Message one.

Critical element of this is difference between inwards (to group.io processing) and outwards (from groups.io) tagging; and the removal of the outward tag if isn't correct on a reply/forwarded message.

Thanks for that. I forwarded the notice to my list in case there are any hotmail users on there. I think there are. Hopefully they are not upset at me for letting them know a bit late, but yeah. Anyway blessings.

As of now, we're still blocked. Assuming we're unblocked in the next day or two, all the queued up email will be delivered. From some things I've read, it appears that they do bulk processing once a day, around midnight. So maybe we have to wait until then to get this fixed.

Or, are you receiving them once more?

Mark actually posted that at 6:12 pm PDT, which would be 01:12 UTC. You're message was posted at 08:31 UTC. So if you answered promptly (within 20 minutes or so) after receiving Mark's message that might be evidence that the block has been removed and the backlog of messages are now reaching Outlook users. Some seven hours late in your case.

Can I suggest that the size of some of the calendar view would be better if they took up less screen space?
If I view the Month view then I cannot get all the days on my screen, let alone the next and previous month buttons.
The week and day views are the same, one has to scroll up and down to see the whole display

Oh thanks for this info Mark, I recently had a member rate to one of the groups that I am a part of, saying that he hasn’t been receiving any messages. So pretty much what you’re saying, any messages that have been sent out will be sent to those members server has been on blocked.

Brian,

... and there's no corresponding association with a member name/e-mail
(even if the sender is a member using another address) so the software
has no way to initiate a private (off-list) reply to the poster. Or
at least I can't see how it could.
The software could know, even if it doesn't display the information. That is, when it received the message (perforce by email) the sender's email address was in the From field. All the software need do is keep track of that bit of metadata. I'd be surprised if it doesn't already.

Part of the address is visible to you (as a moderator) in the message's View Source (see the More menu). Alas, fig-leafed. I think that's a remnant of prior processing when View Source was available to members.

I intend to use this for all subsequent special notices. Please consider doing something similar.

I still believe your idea of having something like this as an automatic system feature is a good one.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • BUGFIX: In the mobile view, the Subgroups link was not always displayed when it should be.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed several screen reader accessibility issues throughout the site.
  • CHANGE: Updated the Google Group transfer page with changed directions.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed the Edit button on the Hashtags page on Safari.
  • BUGIFX: The 'Upload File' button was never disabled, even when it should have been, due to a typo in the HTML.
  • CHANGE: Removed lavabit.com from the list of banned email domains, because they no longer have a disposable email address feature.
  • CHANGE: For messages with both a plain text and html part, we now insert the message footer into both parts (previously we'd only insert it into the html part).
  • CHANGE: Ignore bad certificates from Yahoo when downloading y! group photos.
  • CHANGE: Tweaked plan text message footers to make them much smaller.
  • CHANGE: When inviting someone who is not already a Groups.io user, prioritize setting their Full Name to what was in the invite over what their email is set to.
  • CHANGE: Changed the time format in the calendar views to use am and pm instead of a and p.
  • NEW: You can now change the owner of a photo album.
  • NEW: You can now change the owner of an individual photo.
  • BUGFIX: Removed unused Search button on the chat page.
  • CHANGE: When viewing poll results, keep the order of respondents the same in View By Answer mode. Also removed pagination widget, because we don't currently paginate that page.
  • BUGFIX: For messages with text larger than 32kb in length, we incorrectly passed a much shorter part of the message to the search indexer than was necessary.
  • CHANGE: Changed the gavel icon to a scale to represent moderated threads.
  • BUGFIX: Some error messages weren't being displayed correctly when editing a group's settings (such as group description being too short).
  • NEW: Exportgroup now exports more member data, in json format. For premium/enterprise groups, we now export past member data. And we export member notices.
  • NEW: You can now move photos between photo albums.
  • CHANGE: In the pending message page, all buttons are disabled until at least one message is selected.
  • INTERNAL: Completed switchover to new search cluster.
  • CHANGE: In message, wiki and api revision list pages, if there are two revisions checked, and we check another revision, we remove the oldest revision check.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Shal,

If you look at the screen shot I posted (here: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/17328 in case you participate by e-mail), and I hadn't noticed this at the time, the message itself in the web interface does not have any association with a member if it is posted via the "owner approved an outsider" method, which is what happened here.

Since the web interface never presents a full e-mail address (even if included, which it might have been if you look next to Mr. van Eerde's name) I can't use that to send an e-mail via e-mail and there's no corresponding association with a member name/e-mail (even if the sender is a member using another address) so the software has no way to initiate a private (off-list) reply to the poster.  Or at least I can't see how it could.

,

This engineer subscribed using a different address, yet sends messages via a different address that’s not subscribed yet.

Intriguing. And perhaps similar to Mark's guess that the address' account had been deleted - in this case an account never existed for that address.

However I stick with my earlier comment: I don't see why this should prevent a private (off-list) reply to the poster, since that reply can only initiate an off-list conversation; which doesn't require subscription to the group.
