Hi All,

I've changed it so that the buttons are always there, just disabled if you have a Sidebar and/or Footer.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks.

Needs also to be done on the Create A Group page.

Fixed.

Thanks,

typo - sounds like "the button doesn't show up if the button exists"

This should probably read: "The "Add a Sidebar" button doesn't show up it a sidebar already exists." It sounds like the button show up if the button exists.:)

Duane,

The "Add a Sidebar" button doesn't show up if one exists. Otherwise,
it's at the bottom of the Wiki pages to the right of "Add a Footer" on
my groups.
And mine. Thanks Duane.

(SMH and wondering how I missed that when looking at GMF's wiki earlier)

Mark,

There's a button to create a footer. But unless I'm missing something the sidebar feature is completely undocumented.

FWIW I don't remember where I learned the page name "_Sidebar"...

Mark,

I've replaced archive with messages, and added the word group in some
places to hopefully make things more clear.
Thanks.

Needs also to be done on the Create A Group page.

I just confused a GMF member who was creating a group, but I was using the language of the Settings page. Oops.

I'm seeing different results with google drive integration...
- after implementing only email attachments are saved to the google drive folder used for a group.
- images copied into the google drive folder for a group (using google drive) are not seen in the group
(except it did happen once for one image!)

I totally fail to understand the connection between (a) whether or not people have read some wiki and (b) Mark's adding an attachment capability to the pending subscription notice. Have we gone completely off the rails?

I have read the entire GMF wiki, and contributed to it as well. What I'm saying is that asking group members to read a public wiki is not an acceptable alternative to my file attachment proposal. People are accustomed to receiving email attachments. They can download them and let their antivirus software scan them. They are not as likely to click on a link to a wiki, where I have to somehow reproduce what I already have online as a document. And I am also forced to make the wiki public, which for whatever reason may be something I don't want to do.

[deep breath...]

Anything can be worked around. Groups.io has not had a questionnaire capability for years; and somehow the group owners managed to get by. The only reason we have a lot of people asking about that feature now is because we've had a massive influx of groups leaving Yahoo, and group owners want what they are accustomed to having.

Now, if Mark's ultimate goal is to have groups.io be a Y!G clone that actually works, I'm okay with that. But I'm willing to think outside of the Y!G box, and am offering the file attachment option as a...perhaps...more versatile means of achieving the same end.

If you [or anyone else] don't like my idea, that's fine. I don't like your wiki idea either, so in the end we are even.

Fair? :-)

Regards,
Bruce

I've read parts of it to get some clarity in some operations.  In fact I just did that today to make a decision about creating a subgroup.
I also used the GM wiki a great deal when I was a newbie.

If you actually spent a bit of time looking at the GM wiki you might easily find the answers non only to questions you want to ask but to questions you never though to ask.
BTW  wikies is not plural for wiki; wikis is the correct plural

I never read any wikies unless I have to. And that's me beeing  honest. In fact the list wiki for my list is disabled for that reason, no one is going to read it.

Take care

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • NEW: Enterprise groups can customize the HTML on the login page as well as on the send login link page.
  • CHANGE: Two factor protected accounts can now use Email Me A Login Link.
  • CHANGE: Improvements to the wording of the spam unsub email and moderator notification.
  • CHANGE: When editing a wiki page, don't submit the edit on enter in the reason text field.
  • CHANGE: When trying to change your email address, if you enter in your existing email address, it will now display an error (previously it was silently ignored).
  • NEW: You can now edit the moderator notes of past member records.
  • NEW: Display the name of the owner of each photo album.
  • NEW: New View Members moderator privilege.
  • CHANGE: If a group's Members Visible setting is Owners only, it used to be that we allowed moderators with one of the member change privileges (approve pending members, ban, etc) to also access the Members list. But now, if Members Visible is set to Owners, only owners can access the members list, regardless of whether moderators have those privileges.
  • CHANGE: Don't create activity log entries for bouncing or unbouncing someone in banned groups.
  • CHANGE: Title and description no longer required for Link database columns.
  • CHANGE: Wording changes on Group Settings page for group/message visibility.
  • NEW: For enterprise groups, add a link back to Groups.io under the account dropdown in the upper right.
  • NEW: For restricted premium/enterprise groups, approving a Not Confirmed pending member now automatically confirms that account as well.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Eric Searcy

As someone representing a lot of users transitioning to Groups.io from mailman -- predominantly with lists in the "reply to sender" camp -- finding this header "missing" is more surprising, as our users are already used to the behavior of their particular email clients with this header present.

I'm inclined to see this as a Thunderbird bug, but regardless, would a reasonable compromise be to add this List-Post header, for now, only for lists configured as "reply to sender"?  Or would that make matters more confusing?

(Walter says that he doesn't see a List-Post header on Google Groups ... I *do* see this header on multiple Google Groups I'm on, fwiw.)

Best regards,

Eric

You could always put the file in the Wiki as a page possibly and make the wiki public as many of us do already

moderated Feature Request: Ability to Attach Group File to Member Notice #suggestion

Bruce Bowman

I'd like the ability to set up one of the group files as an attachment to a Member Notice.

This would be a versatile opportunity to send a subscriber anything the owner feels is appropriate at some specified stage of their group subscription. It could be used to send a Pending Member a questionnaire (PDF fill-in form or whatever). It could be used to send an expiring member an application to renew. I'm sure others can think of other uses...

Note that this is already somewhat possible, in that system files are identifiable by URL and can be accessed via a link. However, this would only work for those who are already group members...my proposal would get the necessary file to the person regardless of their subscription status.

Just an idea,
Bruce

P.S. The existing system bug where people subscribing by email do not receive some of the documents and the Moderators are not adequately notified of status still needs to be fixed and should be given high priority.

That's not so bad from "our" perspective then.
