moderated Search all wiki actions in Member Activity #suggestion

Mark,

In each group's Activity log it is a minor pain to find out what has been updated in the group's Wiki. One has to individually search for:
  • Added image to wiki
  • Added wikipage
  • Deleted image from wiki
  • Deleted wikipage
  • Modified wikipage
A selection for "Any wiki change" would be welcome. Actually, there are other topics within the logs which are also covered by multiple entries, and those too could use an "any" selection.

Eventually I hope the notifications overhaul gives me the ability to be notified by web and/or email for such events, but until then...

moderated Visibility in Privacy section of group Settings page - s/archive/message archive/

Mark,

It has become almost a FAQ in GMF to explain that the Visibility option refers to the messages only. Many people interpret "archive" more broadly to include other areas of the group.

I recommend adding the word "message" in front of each use of the word "archive" - in the drop-list entries as well as the sentence below the control.

Either that or simply replace "archive" with "Messages".

I think it would be better if there was ONE landing page for signing in, confirming an email address, and setting up a password, whichever sign in/password scheme people want to use.

I’m trying to write directions and it would be much easier if I didn’t have to test and describe all the possible ways a member might come to the Group Home. We have some detail people who want to follow precise instructions.

I don't think you do, that should be automatic. Wasn't the group name still members-only at the time that particular member attempted to confirm?
I think I may have rewritten the notice when it was the old name and not updated it.

2. There is no option to set up a password. This reads as if the only
option is to use Facebook or Google.
Re-read the sentence. Before it mentions Facebook or Google it says:

If you need to login in the future, you can have a login link emailed
to you, ...

But it doesn’t say how to set up a password. With a password, the browser saves it and you never have to log in again. I can’t imagine wanting to wait for a confirmation email when what I want to do is read my mail.

Maybe this landing page ought not bother to mention Facebook or Google, that seems to distract people.

Mark -
I want to take a brief moment to thank you once again for taking the time to comment on the situation and explain the reasons why the group does things the way it does. This in one more reason why groups.io is so much better than any of the alternatives; users on beta are kept informed and we feel like we are all part of the system, not just mushrooms.

Clicking the Delete My Account button brings you to the section of the help that tells you to send an email to support to delete your account. I haven't automated deletions yet for security concerns and because some enterprise groups want to be notified/take care of account deletions themselves.

Thanks,
Mark

Well, that's my 'learn something new everyday' bit for today! I had to look up the word. But maybe you're right. Anyway, Mark just notified me that he deleted my second account and I was able to add it as an alias like I originally wanted.

I'd like to see something like this for polls, too.

I recently created a poll that had a couple of typos. I edited it to fix the typos -- and added some more possible answers, too -- not realizing that every time I clicked the update button a new notification went out to the group.

People were duly annoyed.

I invited Contact to join. They replied by confirming on the website. The confirmation message on the screen includes this:

You have not set a password for your Groups.io account. Setting one is not required for participating with the group through email. We have logged you into the website and therefore you can now access the members-only web features of the group. If you need to login in the future, you can have a login link emailed to you, or you can use the Facebook or Google buttons to login.

Need a link to the Account page to set up a password.

Bob how would you do that? This also bugs me. I find myself going into the emailed photos and doing a lot of deleting. There are so many duplicates.

To calculate checksum (md5 or simpler like CRC) of content of each emailed file requires not much processing resources. Keep checksum, file size, location and link count of each file in a per-group database table. Make the link count working like hard links on a Unix filesystem.

On the GroupManagersForum, someone pointed me to the FAQ file that states to delete an account I have to contact support@groups.io. I have done that, but isn't that rather confusing to have a button that doesn't seem to do what it purports to do?

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: Clicking a link database table column now takes you to the link, instead of to the view row page.
  • CHANGE: Display more information on the Yahoo Transfer page for each In Process transfer request.
  • BUGFIX: When viewing a subgroup home page, redirect when one of the unlisted privacy settings, but not otherwise.
  • INTERNAL: Improvements to the structured logging of web queries to make it easier to track activity.
  • BUGFIX: On mobile, in the Topics/Messages view, the Filter Funnel got pushed to a new line. Fixed.
  • BUGFIX: When adding a Reply-To line because of DMARC, use the original From line, email address and name, instead of just email address.
  • BUGFIX: Wiki pages were not being incrementally indexed by the search engine. Bug fixed and wiki pages fully re-indexed.
  • NEW: You can now cancel an event, which sends an email to everyone who RSVPed Yes or Maybe.
  • CHANGE: Removed requirement for sending a login link with an enterprise domain that the person have at least one subscription to that enterprise group. Made it impossible for someone with an account without a password to subscribe to their first enterprise group.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed the header when downloading the member list.
  • CHANGE: In the members page, changed the Action dropup to a dropdown.
  • BUGFIX: Fix stripping 'Sent from my ...' lines in plain text only messages that don't end with a newline.
  • NEW: For premium/enterprise groups, you can view past member activity and moderator notes.
  • CHANGE: No longer defaulting to send event notices to the group on creation/update.
  • BUGFIX: Fix redirect to login when trying to view the private guidelines of a group.

Have a good weekend everybody.

With the right moderator privileges you could go in and purge the stupid ones from members' signatures.
But that depends on whether your group specifically covers that type of action with its' terms and conditions.

Gerald,

Emailed photos drive me nuts. It's great to be able to have pictures in posts, so I am in favor of the process. But, I hate that whenever a post is replied to, the same images are duplicated in the Photos/Emailed folder.
And, what really drives me most nuts of all, is users with silly images in their signatures.

I don't have any idea as to how to filter out the signature spam, but perhaps a smart algorithm in the Emailed Photos folder that only keeps one copy of any image. Would this be possible?

I think it would be possible (items 2 & 3 in my message), but I don't know if it is practical considering how much impact it would have on message processing resources, or on development effort to implement it and get it right (that is, testing).
