Re: Left-hand Menu Request
Is there anything in the Admin menu that has a number beside it? That will cause the Admin menu to expand automatically. Once all those are taken care of, it should always start collapsed.

Re: Database request
In your Account settings, under Preferences, you can select the number of Items Per Page - 20, 50, 100, or Infinite Scroll. Infinite Scroll doesn't work in a database, but the others do. This also changes what you see on the web site when looking at messages.
You can click on any column header and it will sort by that column. At the moment, it's single column only, so no secondary sorting. Duane

Hi Bob,
I thought I must have missed something when I read your message so I’ve just tested it. I opened my group, collapsed the menu, shut the window and reopened it. The menu was opened again so, for some reason, it doesn’t remember my choice. In fact, if I close up the menu and then go to some other place – directory or photos – the menu immediately reopens. Interesting.

Re: refinements to member notices

p.s. The Welcome Message does, of course, fall into case (1) for a non-restricted group. So there does need to be an "active" default in that case.

If there's nothing for the moderator/owner to do, and you had previously collapsed the Admin sub menu,
when you return to groups.io, the Admin sub menu should still be collapsed. It does for me on any of my groups that don't have Admn work to do. -- Bob Bellizzi Founder, Fuchs Friends ®

p.s. re the member who already had an account yet was asked to confirm, is it possible some data got lost during the downtime and other recent problems?

pending subscription process changed?
In doing some testing today, I noticed that I seem to no longer receive a pending subscription notification until the requesting member has confirmed. Is this new? I used to get members with NC.
(Mark, I can send you the details privately if need be. The pending member/email address in question actually has, and had, a groups.io account, yet received a confirmation email as if they had no account. Furthermore, I did not receive any notice of their subscription request, either in email or in the pending queue, until they had confirmed.) -- J

refinements to member notices
#suggestion
My suggestion overall (details below) is separate out member notices into two cases:
2. Similar to "rejected message" currently, allow multiple notices for “rejected subscription” and allow the mod to choose, at the time of rejecting the subscription, which one goes out. Similarly, the "active" designation could (and would preferably) be removed.
3. Same for removed member and banned member - remove the "active" choice and pick which one goes out, if any, at the time of the removal or banning. J

Re: Can Member Notices be personalised
Sounds like overkill to me. :) All the notices are sent to the email address of the applicable member. And most of them (all except the automatically sent messages) already have a customizable "from" address, either +owner or the moderator sending the notice.

Re: Can Member Notices be personalised
J,
Yes, it goes "to" the person that requested the subscription but there's no way to embed the requesting email in the body of the message. I can see that a feature like this would be of value to personalize the body of the message. Many mailing services (mailchimp comes to mind) support that feature. Admittedly, the only piece of data available for insertion is the email address so it's of limited value. (Might be useful if the requester receives email from multiple addresses in their inbox.) It's a "nice to have" in my opinion. Toby

Re: Date format settings
#suggestion
Sue
Hi,
I would also like to add my voice to those wishing to have the dates shown in something other than standard American. With Groups io becoming more international by the day, the international format would seem a good idea if a single format is easiest to code. I’m not too bothered about having it everywhere but I would like the date format in the database so my date column recognises the numbers I enter there as a date and so can be searchable. Sue

Left-hand Menu Request
Sue
Hi,
Getting several wishes off my chest this afternoon <g>
I know this ‘feature’ was requested by those whose moderation duties keep them far more busy than mine but having the Admin menu open all the time is becoming very annoying because I more often than not, want to get to the files or the database and have to close up the Admin menu first. It’s such a small thing really but sometimes I blink and wonder where the other features are because they’ve dropped off the visible page and I can’t immediately see them. Is there any way this could be optional or have some kind of memory associated with it?

Database request
Sue
Hi,
I’m in the process of working through over 900 rows in my database to add a title to the link. I think this must be a new feature I’d overlooked. Anyway, I’m anal enough to undertake the exercise <g> Currently I can see the first 9 pages but to get beyond that I have to click the forward button so I can then see pages 5-13 and then click the forward button again to view the next few pages. What would help enormously would be if one could ‘jump’ maybe 10 pages ahead each time and also a ‘last page’ button.

Re: Can Member Notices be personalised
I don't understand this request. Like all member notices, the Pending Subscription notice goes TO the person requesting the subscription.
The invitation already does include the name of the person sending the invitation. Which other member notices are you suggesting adding this information to? -- J

Can Member Notices be personalised
Tony Moody
Hallo beta,
I would like to personalise some of my group Member Notices. For instance, in a Pending Subscription Notice I would like to include something like " A request for membership has been received from <names> <em@ail.co> . " How to add coding for some of the fields to Member Notices? What fields and variables are available? OK, Tony Moody

If you have the pictures off group, there are various programs that will do a bulk resize - I use Faststone Image Resizer, can set it going with suitable settings, and have a cuppa while it does its stuff. You may want to change image format (to jpg/whatever) or (for jpgs) reduce the quality setting at the same time.
