Thank you SO much for doing this, Mark, fantastic. I have a question if I might: I will be moving a rather large list in a week or so, and I wanted to try to keep my group's size down to 1 GB. However, our current photos section is 7 GB alone (the files are still in the MBs, so no worries about that section causing issues). Is there a way I can move just the more current photo albums/photos so I don't transfer all 9 years' worth of photos? My group just isn't set up to be able to obtain a membership fee from on an annual basis, to cover the $110 annual cost, so trying to keep our size down. We're a sewing/quilting/embroidery group, so we're sort of heavy on the photos (of our projects, work, etc.) Or, would I transfer everything, then go in and delete the older photos until we're down under 1 GB? Patty Sliney ______________ Patty - Mark will likely contact you with some options. One option that might make a big difference is to resize the photos you have down to something smaller. A lot of people post photos larger than necessary because they don't know how to resize or don't have software for it. Mark might be able to use a combination of things to get the size down and still save most of your images. Another thing you might want to do is check to see what you've set for a maximum image size the group will accept. There are settings to resize photos that are posted. Keep in mind that a 1024 x 1024 image will fill a high resolution screen from side to side and run off the top and bottom edges of the monitor. We're getting into some things here that might be better discussed on GMF rather than tying up Mark's time on beta. Dano

Re: New status site
Thanks, Mark. Amusingly (or not), when I tried to click on the new status site link, for the first time (using FF), I got that dreaded message:
When I clicked on Advanced, here's the cert info: No way to report this to FF to let them know this is an error (just to report a malicious site), so I created an exception so I could continue. Thanks for taking care of this. The frustrations of trying to stay valid on the Internet. Glad I am me and not you, omg.

New Yahoo group transfer system
Hi All, I spent a good part of this week completely redoing how I do Yahoo Group transfers. No longer do you initiate transfers by inviting the transfer user to join your group. Instead, you go to https://groups.io/yahootransfer and fill out a form, with your Yahoo Group, your Groups.io group and what you'd like to transfer. You can then track the progress of the transfer through the website. It's more automated than the previous transfer process and it gives people more information. Hopefully it'll help reduce the backlog of transfer requests. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks, Mark

For some reason, Chrome Canary throws a privacy error at me, but it might be a Canary bug. Usability-wise: maybe is it worth to make dates (or something else meaningful) headings? If this is not possible by design, then I'd suggest adding role="article" to a div describing each past incident. Well, in my Ukrainian-and Russian speaking groups there are quite a lot of people who do not understand a word in English and, as I said, are scared of messages in Latin script. Then if a person declines the invite, I have to write him/her a personal letter stating that he/she needs simply to reply to the message, that it's not spam, and so on, and so forth. But it is far from being comfortable, I should say. -- With best regards from Ukraine, André Skype: menelion_elensule Twitter: @m_elensule; Facebook: menelion

From: Victoria <dr.vcaesar@netcologne.de> To: main@beta.groups.io Date created: , 1:53:47 AM Subject: [beta] could invitation text be moved André, yes of course. That´s my concern as well. By the way we have lots of blind users in our group, so this is an important information. The problem is that no matter where I put the German text, the English text will always be read by the screen reader as well. That´s why I´d prefer to have a blank field where I can put my own text. Since Mark´s so busy with all these transfers (mine´s in there as well), I have to find a way until this can be altered. So how do you get along with your Ukranian speaking members? Can they all speak English? In my group there are quite a few older people and some from Germany´s east who do not understand English well (but maybe Ukranian)... Victoria ---- André wrote: In the case of blind users that just doesn't work. I dare speak for the blind because I know quite a lot of blind-related groups are transfered to Groups.io and new groups are created here. That's because e-mail is still a very comfortable way of communication for us, and Groups.io web interface is really accessible and usable (thanks Mark!). So, two horizontal lines just don't work because a screen reader would interpret the text line by line. And there are lots of people who not only don't speak English, but are afraid of some message in a foreign language coming first. Such people tend to delete those e-mails as spam without even reading them. -- With best regards from Ukraine, Andre Skype: menelion_elensule Twitter: @m_elensule; Facebook: menelion ------------ Original message ------------ From: Victoria <dr.vcaesar@netcologne.de> To: main@beta.groups.io Date created: , 1:22:00 AM Subject: [beta] could invitation text be moved Marina, Kevin, Shal suggested to put the other language message inside two horizontal lines. Of course, this would make it less confusing. But of course it would be helpful if members from non English-speaking countries could be invited in their own language without a boilerplate or English texts above or below. I have no idea how big a job it would be to just inactivate this fixed invite text so each owner can write his own? Victoria ---- Marina wrote: I would go a step further. I think that having the possibility to address the invitee in his/her own language would reduce the risk of people marking the message as spam. Why can't the message be *fully* customizable? I am afraid that putting a text in German (or in Italian or whatever) in the middle of or above or below the text in English would make people even more confused. I can understand that localization is not a priority now, but maybe we can start from this feature and give foreign group owners the possibility to invite members in their own language? Thank you for your attention. Marina

And yet bizarrely, I'm using Norton on 2 different computers - one with Chrome and the other IE11 - and neither is giving me any warnings or blocking me at all. Granted, I do have some of the more irritating of Norton's 'features' turned off, but even going directly to the message which is apparently causing the problem, I'm still not getting any warning.
