Hello. I’m also experiencing the blocking/malware warning situation, using Firefox on Windows 10. I can’t get to groups.io currently. I run Avast Free Antivirus. Here are some screenshots, in the order they appeared, from when I tried to go to https://groups.io a moment ago (I did click “I trust this website” in the first Warning message):

I get “site can’t be reached” messages from Chrome and Edge (but maybe it’s being worked on now?).

I can get to Groups.io in Chrome on my Android phone.

I've gotten one other support email about this. I don't know why this would happen, as nothing's changed except for the downtime this morning.

Any additional information you can get me (what the warning say specifically, any URLs, etc) would be of great help.

Thanks,

Never seen that before with Groups.io from Edge, but it has been at least a couple days since I tried it.

I don't have an edge browser set up at the moment. Can you go through the 'Report that this site does not contain threats' process?

I wonder "reported" by whom? Possibly confused or disgruntled transferees from a Yahoo Group? There have been mentions of distrust in the Y!Groups moderator groups.

I am baffled. I did a lot of Y! Group transfers over the past two days, working through the backlog. Maybe that was it?

If I go https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/url and input groups.io, I get a phishing warning from a place called PhishLabs, which I've never heard of.

Hmmm. What a day.

Thanks,
Mark

I just logged out and back in with Firefox. Neither time did I get a warning of any type.

And this, a report from AVG claiming an infection with URL:Mal - whatever that is.

My groups.io stuff is still working - was on it all day and never closed it.
Mods and members can't get on the site.
From one mod:

From another:
I can’t access the group at all right now as my security software has suddenly blocked Groups i.o. as a known malicious site.

Also the member who can't access says all links to groups.io bring up warnings from Outlook about maleware (even the old digests)

Suggest some additional explanation be added to the Facebook integration page.  All it says now is "Post updates from Facebook Pages to your group."
Should add some items such as:

Note: this integration only supports a public Page, not a Facebook group.  Verify that the Page can be viewed without logging into Facebook.
The Page is polled hourly for updates. (or whatever the mechanism is so you know how long to wait to see if it's working)

Probably some other notes would be useful too.
Thanks!

As an opportunity for learning, there are a couple of things that I will change because of this:

- At various points, some people going to the site received the cats maintenance page. The maintenance message was out of date, and referred to an old maintenance. I have fixed that.
- I will set up a status webpage, not hosted with the other servers/datacenter, where I will post when there are issues.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I would go a step further.

I think that having the possibility to address the invitee in his/her own language would reduce the risk of people marking the message as spam.
Why can't the message be *fully* customizable?
I am afraid that putting a text in German (or in Italian or whatever) in the middle of or above or below the text in English would make people even more confused.

I can understand that localization is not a priority now, but maybe we can start from this feature and give foreign group owners the possibility to invite members in their own language?

Thank you for your attention.

moderated see past activity from "removed" as well as "banned" members (premium groups) #suggestion

I have brought this up before, but only tangentially within other topics: I now routinely ban every member who leaves the group because it's the only way I can see who they were and their past activity. In other words: there are a "past members" list and a "banned members" list, but in only the banned list can you click on the member to reach their member page.

Is there any way to make the "past members" just as clickable? I am now banning people I would not normally ban, just to see who they were when they leave and what problems (if any) there were. I've now banned so many that it's at the point where I can't tell from looking at the "banned" list whether or not I really want these people to be banned, and therefore I can't necessarily make a reasonable decision on what to do if they reapply. (Also, I can see that they've reapplied only by the log entry "banned member attempted to apply" but I also don't get notified by email.)

Is there some way to rectify this? Clearly, the record still exists, because all I have to do is move the "past" email address to the "banned" list and it becomes accessible.

moderated Re: Calendar Repeat

Dave Sergeant

I can see what you are asking. One of our calendar reminders needs
sending each Wednesday except the second Wednesday (when we have a
different one) and I have had to set up 5 different reminders. I
suspect it will be hard to do to cover all eventualities.

Similarly, I have been asked by one of our members if there could be an
option in ones individual preferences not to receive calendar
reminders. This is probably easier to do but I accept it would be way
down the to-do list.

I second that - not just in Victoria's situation but I would rather my own message come first before the boilerplate info.

I´ve started transferring my German group.

I wrote a German invitation text, but it shows up in the midst of the fixed English text. Is it possible to move my German text above the boilerplate or below the “Hello (Name)”?
