Re: Can Moderators be given ability to edit members signatures?
It's not about clogging up the list in our group, either. It's about people (many of them) stating medically incorrect facts in their signatures that could mislead other group members. I could put everyone who does this on moderation and laboriously edit the incorrect statement(s) each time, but that's a PITA. There are also, as LeeAnne says, the people who can't figure out how to create their auto-sig, and the auto-sig is now *required* in my group and must contain certain information in my group. I'm sure there are many more scenarios.

Re: Can Moderators be given ability to edit members signatures?
Hi Ronaldo,
This isn't about clogging up the list - at least for our group. It is about getting the required details and information links into our member's signatures. When a member isn't computer savvy enough to do it themselves, and our work arounds are thwarted by hidden formatting problems or even the member's lack of skill, it creates much confusion and frustration. If mods had signature editing ability they could set up the member's signature once and for all, eliminating a major hassle that takes up time and energy needed elsewhere. -- -LeeAnne ECIR Archivist

Dave,
There are two chckboxes near the end of the event below where you set Reminders that say: Send Invite To Group
Send Notice To Group When Event Happens
Send Invite To Group is checked by default. ; Mark mentioned it on one of his updates recently. I 'got' me the other day when I was in an update cycle and my members got several invtes, one each time I Saved my update -- Bob Bellizzi Founder, Fuchs Friends ®

Maybe just a glitch, but I just edited a repeating event for tonight to
remove the reminder at the start of the event (g4bra@groups.io) and it sent out an 'updated' reminder for the one which happened last December.... Dave On 15 Feb 2018 at 11:31, Mark Fletcher wrote: Hi Scott, http://davesergeant.com

I'm not sure why and how this would work. Why would a moderator/owner want to edit someones signature/footer?
If they clog up the list, wouldn't a "discard anything after two hyphens and a space" feature be enough? and what does "second" mean? Didn't we instate the thumbs-up feature to prevent "me too"-messages? groetjes, , Ronaldo

Re: Can Moderators be given ability to edit members signatures?
Howdy Duane
:-) Thanks for the work around ideas but they just don't work for our particular group. :-( We have been using wiki instructions and one-one emails to help members but they fail some of our members. We can't possibly edit every message a confused member posts. Our group is big (10,000) and can have several daily digest per day with new members constantly coming in needing help to fill out a case history form, join a sub-group, download, fill out a case history form, then make the folder to upload it to. They also need a signature that includes their name, general location, join date and so the mods can find their information in the sub-groups files and unsearchable photo section, working links to their information. New members are often justifiably frantic for help and have a big medical learning curve to get through but add to that a limited understanding of how the internet, let alone Groups.io works? It is almost mission impossible at times. The drive and time it takes to overcome the technical stuff for some is a lot more than some people would invest for anything else. If our mods can reduce some of the stress and quickly and permanently fix members signatures it would save us all so much time and frustration. I've been at signature fix with a member for over a week now and this is not first time it has taken this long. I'm at my wits end myself, otherwise I would not bother the Beta Group with this. -- -LeeAnne ECIR Archivist

I think this is a great feature to add, Mark. We used the Comments section in the membership application heavily for my lists, mainly based on my list demographic. We use it to help screen out list spammers. Yahoo Groups has the option to make that comments section mandatory to complete - you can't submit the membership application without filling out the comments section - with a checkbox for "mandatory" I think. It helps us a lot. We ask in our list description for a "list-specific" comment, and not a general comment, so we can screen out list spammers. Most of the time, folks understand that. Sometimes we have to prompt them for a more specific comment, but this is really an important feature in the application form for my groups. Having a customized questionnaire is a "nice to have", but that comments field for us is a "need to have".

Hi
A suggestion for the section on signatures in the useful Help page. It says: How Do I Set Up A Signature For My Account? To set a signature for your account, go to the Subscription page for your group (it's the 'Subscription' tab in the left hand sidebar when viewing your group). On the subscription page, look for the 'Use Signature For Web Posting' checkbox and check that. Then you will be able to add a signature. Once complete, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to save your changes. I suggest that you change “account” in “to set a signature for your account” to “to set a signature for a group”. And add that each group you subscribe to (or each subscription) can have a different signature. Or “the signature is for a specific subscribed group and you can set a different signature for each, if you wish." It works, just tested that. Frances

Group Search Sort Options?
#suggestion
I noticed in doing a Groups search, there's no Sort options, to re-sort your search results. Would be nice to be able to sort by best match/relevancy, newest, oldest, # of members, # of messages.

The Group Home link should not take you to a log in page, it should take you to the group home page. Did you by chance click the 'Change Your Subscription' link, which is right above the Group Home link? That would take you to the login page and then the Manage My Subscription page. TestAccount 2 (with No Password - set for Individual Messages) -- Group Home Link in footer of Individual email message takes me to Log In Page. Log in with Email and either Forgot Your Password or Send me an Email. Link in Email takes me to Profile Page. I must use the drop down menu for My Groups at top of page to select xxxGroup to get to xxxGroup Home Page. Clicking the Forgot your Password link has the end result in putting you in the Profile page because the idea is that you want to reset your password. TestAccount 3 (with No Password - set for Digest Messages) -- xxxGroup link in Header of Digest Message takes me to Log In Page. Yes, there is a slight inconsistency here. The link in the "This is a digest for ..." sentence does go to the /messages page. This would require a log in if the group had private archives. But the link doesn't say Group Home. I can change this to go to the group home page if people think that'd be better. Thanks, Mark

I reluctantly click "Like" on Duane's workarounds because they are good workarounds. But I would still prefer to have direct editing capability of the signature a priori.

I can think of a couple of work-arounds that you might consider, at least for now. First, you could require approval on messages to give you a chance to correct things before they get posted. Maybe only for members that seem to have trouble? Alternately, you could edit the posts after they show up.

Can Moderators be given ability to edit members signatures?
Hi All,
It would save our group and it's horses so much pain and trouble if our moderators could edit the members signatures. We have been trying to email directions (we don't allow images or attachments in the messages) and that works for most members however there often is formatting issues as well as the challenges of explaining things to members who don't have a basic understanding of computers or how Groups.io works. Is it possible to be able to give moderators the ability to edit the members signatures? -- -LeeAnne ECIR Archivist
