I would take advantage of the transfer process, unless you have only a handful of members. I don't think it would be easy to replicate all the features of the transfer by hand. 

As for delays in messages, that was happening yesterday afternoon due only to a freak occurrence. Someone sent a couple of GINORMOUS messages through the system - I know because I noticed the delay and messaged Mark, and he immediately messaged me back - on a Saturday! - and told me what was up. These kinds of issues are so rare in groups.io that I would say that they just don't happen. It is the polar opposite of yahoo here. OTOH I don't know how large your attachments are. Perhaps if they're really huge, it's causing a problem. Mark will let you know what kinds of sizes might cause an issue, if any.

If you want to pay, you can upgrade your group to "premium" for $10/month (or, I think, $100/year). I highly recommend this because it gives you a couple of additional capabilities in addition to just increasing your allowable storage.

Having played around with Groups.io, I am prepared to move my group. While I have group members who are fighting the inevitable, I think it is something that must be done.

I've copied my groups photos, files, and messages via PG Offline to my hard drive, and I'm wondering if I really need to take up Mark's time to transfer the group from Yahoo, or if that is everything i need to get from them. Is there a way to complete the transfer from the files I downloaded?

I've set up a trial site, and a site with a similar name that I have been saving for the transfer from Yahoo. While I'd like to keep the hashtags I've already created, if I have to use the unused 'similar name' empty site I will invest the time. I've already invested quite a bit.

There are features that are missing that I would love to have, and have posted some of them in the beta group.
I would love a calendar that had an "add Tags" dropdown. It would probably also allow for the color coding to match those of the hashtags.
I would like to have the calendar event entry come with the ability to standardize a few notification dates.

Sometimes messages with attachments take hours or do not show up at all on the receiving end. Is that my site, or something that happens to others? I have gotten around that by just adding the separate file, but I would love to have a message go out with those files. Perhaps it is because my site is 'new'?

Comments and help are much appreciated.
I hate to say that I would feel better if there was a fee for this, and that staff could be hired to assist Mark, because long term stability means I don't have to worry about doing this again. There are pay sites that could do what we have here. My personal reason for choosing this is that it is as close as possible to what my group has used for the last 7 years, and we're old guys. Literally.

When getting individual message delivery, there are these options on the bottom of the email:

Contact Group Owner
Terms Of Service
Unsubscribe From This Group

 

However in the digest delivery, you only get the option to unsubscribe on the bottom of the digest. Perhaps consider the above options, as well, for the digest?

I am the owner of a Yahoo group with 564 German speaking members from Switzerland, Austria and Germany and various other European countries. As many other group owners I am irritated about the many break downs of and the lack of support by yahoo and thinking about moving to groups.io.
Not all our members are able to manage English terminology in functions and descriptions. Therefore my question:

Is a German speaking version targeted?

Actually, it does.

I set my test group to allow non-subscriber posting, and banned one of my test addresses. A subsequent email from that address was rejected ("bounced"):

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 500 You are not allowed to post to that group.

This is far more useful than a email address.
Well, it is differently useful. People can send from different IP addresses about as easily as they do from different email addresses. And the IP address used is far less evident to group moderators. So for the purpose of Groups.io's ban feature it isn't obvious to me that it would be far more useful.

Also, How about modifying the idea: Allow non-members to post but
make their posts always moderated?

Our website is Drupal based and our domain uses Spam Assassin which allows me to either disallow a single ip or a range of ip's or an entire domain, etc.
This is far more useful than a email address.

Also, How  about modifying the idea:  Allow non-members to post but make their posts always moderated?

Since I wanted an RSVP, I create polls for different events. For questions, the answers I allow are
"Yes I am attending"
and since you must have at least 2 answers, 
"Do not reply if you are not attending." 

Then you can see who responded, and also email all or individuals from the poll.

I set up a new account in order to test this process. Now I’m even more confused. Nowhere does it mention setting up a password.

This was so much easier 2 years ago.

After I signed up with a new email address I saw this:

An email has been sent to you with a link to log into your account and confirm your email address. Look for a message from Groups.io with the Subject: "Confirm Your Groups.io Account".

If you don't want to log in to Groups.io, you may reply to that email instead and that will confirm your email address without logging you on.

When you confirm your email address your membership will be completed. The group may send you further information about the group.

Here is some information that may be helpful when you have confirmed your email address:

• All messages posted in this group will be sent to you at yahoo@....
• To post to the group, send an email to TakomaDC@TakomaDC.groups.io or visit the Post page.

To change your delivery and subscription options, or to unsubscribe, click the Subscription Options bar below.
50% too many words. I suggest:

An email has been sent from Groups.io to confirm your email address and activate your membership.
To say where messages will be received and sent, and to set delivery options before confirming email address and activating the membership seems out of order. I would put this somewhere else

The email to confirm my subscription seems too long. When readers see lots of words, they expect lots of information. Anyone who has signed up for any email group or website has done this confirmation process so they know the routine. And everyone over 5 or at least 10 our under 80 has done this.

So I click on the "confirm membership” then I see a page that says:

Even if I had seen “password" on the confirmation email message, I would still be trying to find where to set up a password. Finally I explore "Set Up Your Profile”, (a page I would never visit) and find “Edit your identity information to add your full name, user name, and profile photo.”

Still no mention of passwords.

“Identity information” is an uncommon use of words. Usually don’t sites say Membership Information unless it is a commercial site? Identity as in war games?

Is a “profile" different than an “identity”? The instructions use both words. Why?

Then when I go to “Set up your Profile,” it doesn’t ask for "full name, user name, and a profile photo" — it asks for password and sign-in information, which is what I was looking for in the first place. No mention of it anywhere else.

In the left hand menu, under "Other Services" I see "Oauth Logins” ? Are "other services" the same as “integrations”?

Under “preferences" people are able to make different choices than the list is set up for. Will members think they can post in HTML if they want to when the list is set to plain text? If the list was set to HTML and they choose to receive plain text, they would see gibberish, right?

I’ve noticed Billing and Payments appearing frequently. What would an individual account holder be paying for? Why ask for a credit card number? My people are going to freak. Many have already refused to subscribe to Yahoo by going to the website because Yahoo wants their phone number — I have to enroll them directly so no other information is recorded. I’m promising them no marketing on Groups.io and they see billing.

Detail people are weird and I don’t want to give them anything to be weirder about. Two words that mean the same thing is a lot of emails to explain.

I’m a writer and a former academic, so don’t take offense. I do this in my sleep.

Yes, Mark, your language at the bottom of the page is almost good enuf, but needs a bit of tweaking & moving it higher up on the page, perhaps, so it is far more noticeable.

 

To those who replied, indicating to change our invite/subscription language, that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about an entire group transfer of 15K people who are members already & just need to know how to navigate the new platform.

I don't want to be a pain either, but...
I sent an invite to transfer@ from my YG Biblit yesterday and got an error message like many other desperate YG owners.
I decided to wait it out, but this morning, following Wise Shal's wise advice, I tried to send an invite to one on my e-mails not listed in the group just to check if the system worked. I got the same error message and I haven't received any invite from YG so far.
So maybe the error message, at least in some cases, is an actual error message and not a bug.

I wonder if the transfer could be done the other way round: the desperate YG owner sends a mail to transfer@ stating the name of the YG group he/she wants to relocate and you contact the group from transfer@ with a membership request.

Sorry if this is a dumb idea.
