Subject: [beta] Yahoo Group transfers

Hi All,

I know this isn't really a topic for beta@, but I need to get the word out.

There's a large backlog of group transfer requests, and I'm trying to work through them. But what's difficult at the moment is that I'm getting a ton of duplicated invites to Yahoo Groups (I have 442 sitting in my mail queue at the moment). Apparently people are getting errors from Yahoo when submitting invite requests, and then submitting invites again, over and over. If you get an error, most likely the invite still went through and you do not need to submit an invite again.

I've added a note to the instructions page on the site, but if you are involved with any Yahoo Groups who are thinking about moving, I'd appreciate it if you could pass this along.

Thanks,
Mark

Yes, this is the place. Unfortunately we can get shot down for sounding like groups.io evangelists in some of the die-hard yahoo groups we try to help (it happened to me - "do you work for them?" etc.). It's impossible to "get it" until after you move.

Oh good grief, Mark. How many more things can Yahoo come up with?
Hang in there - and take care of you.

Hi Sharon,

I'm unfamiliar with Google sites and don't have a transfer mechanism available.

Sorry,
Mark

Yes, if the files re-appear at some point, then you can go ahead and go through the transfer process again, but specify that you wish only the files to be transferred.

Thank you so much Mark for completing the transfer of our group's membership list and full message archive (dating back to 1999 when it was with Onelist!)

Thank you so much. Words cannot express how important our longtime online community means to our members, and the fact that you have saved us so that we could stay together.

moderated Group Links available in Individual messages vs Digest messages

Dotty Bell

I've noticed that there is a set of links available at the bottom of Individual messages from Groups.io, that do not appear at the bottom of Digest messages.

The Individual messages have the standard reply options (View/Reply online, Reply to Group, Reply to Sender, Mute this Topic, New Topic).  Then below that, there are the additional options (Change Subscription, Group Home, Contact Group Owner, Terms of Service, Unsubscribe).

When messages are received in Digest form, there are the standard reply options listed under each message.  But the additional options available in Individual form, are not shown below the final message in the Digest.  There does appear in the header of the Digest, the link to Change Subscription.  And in the footer, a link to Unsubscribe.  Shal pointed out that the group email address also appears in the header and footer, but I think it is unclear that it is not a part of the Change Subscription or Unsubscribe links.  I would be hesitant to click on the email address, at the risk of unsubscribing.

I suggest that the additional link options should be added to the bottom of the Digest message in the same format as they appear in the Individual messages.  I would particularly like having a Group Home link.  Perhaps leaving the group email address in the Digest header would be handy too, as some subscribers might not scroll all the way to the bottom of the digest.

Thanks.
Dotty

Anyway, I noticed that you can just click Your Groups and skip directly to the messages section of a sub-group. I still think it would be nice if there was a direct link from the messages page.

Smarter about when to make a member clickable in the Members page based on moderator privileges.
Mark,

I tried to check this out in moderator privileges, and I noticed that some of the moderator privileges now say "also allows access to the member list." Is this what you're talking about here? Or do you really mean the member *page*, and if so, how does that work? I was just thinking about requesting a separate privilege for access to member pages, since I possibly want to add some moderators but want to limit what they see about members. I think you mean, based on the clickability thing, "also allows access to member pages" rather than "to the member list"? If so, this is exactly what I was about to request, but maybe the wording needs to be tweaked...

I think you outdid yourself this week, BTW. GIve yourself a raise!
