Have you filed a bug with Incredimail?

It seems like Incredimail depends on the Internet Explorer Flash plugin, which would make it super non-portable and maybe non-standard HTML.

moderated problems with receiving "tickets", zendesk activity log, and zendesk login UI #bug #suggestion

I recently did not receive the usual "ticket" for a bug report I'd sent to support. Re-sending the bug report this morning also resulted in no ticket so I did not trust sending THIS bug report (about the lack of ticket) to support. (Instead, I sent it to support and cc'd Mark's email address.) So that's issue #1: lack of acknowledgement from the support address. It is flakey, because I *did* receive a ticket for the bug report about lack of ticket. However, twice in a row there was no ticket.

In reporting this to GMF and asking if anyone else had experienced the problem, I was advised to log into zendesk and check my activity. I had not realized that this facility even existed. Issue #2: When I tried to log in, I was treated as a new groups.io user, asked to "create my groups.io account" (as if I didn't already have one), and then asked to "log into groups.io" (as if I weren't already logged in). It would be less confusing if that UI could be changed to explicitly refer to "creating a zendesk account for groups.io" (or words to that effect) and then "logging into your groups.io zendesk account" instead of logging into one's groups.io account, especially when one is already logged in. So that is the #suggestion.

When I did finally get logged into zendesk, I found that the report for which I had not received a ticket was not in my activity page. That's when I resent the bug and again did not receive a ticket.

Something funky seems to be going on.

Hi All,

What might not be apparent to all is that the rapidly decaying corpse of Yahoo Groups is forcing groups at an ever increasing pace to find a better solution.  This includes many groups in the UK and Europe (and possibly elsewhere) who do not use the US date format.

Can I please add a strong vote for moving the whole of Groups.io across to the international date format so everyone on the planet is on a level playing field.  This will make a great product into a fantastic one.  Such a small thing shouldn't make a difference, but it really does make it almost unworkable in the UK as the US dates cause so much confusion.

Thanks.

As I type this, there is a useful system message banner about downtime, but it is in Pacific time (with American date format :-( ), rather than my local time zone (as set in profile), so not as helpful as might be.

If it cannot be set to come out in 'my' tome zone automatically (which would be the ideal), duplicating it in UTC would be advantageous.

Is there any progress on this? - either to make date/time format a user chooseable option, and ideally one which can be set as a default by a group (as timezone now is), or to make the standard format the international (ISO 8601 yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm) one (which has the advantage that, unlike the various nn/nn/nn date formats, no mistakeable variant is in common use anywhere).

Now that a couple more machines have been through the process, and I have a better idea what to expect, I expect tonight's downtime to last closer to 30 minutes. I have put a banner on the site saying it will be about an hour, just to be safe.

Mark actually it has been months that yahoo is having problems with their photos. No fix in sight.

I can't add any photos or do any thing there.

I am back with iogroups and so far loving it.

moderated Exporting photos from Yahoo Groups

Hi All,

fyi, I just added a note to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page on the site. For some groups we are unable to export the Photos section. Something's up with Yahoo. If you cannot view your Photos in your Yahoo Group, we will be unable to export them. I think this started about mid last week.

Also, I've been behind a bit on processing transfers, and am working through the backlog now.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I'm always blown away by these messages of yours. I'm sure that nobody here can imagine yahoo groups telling people that yahoo will be down for several hours, let alone several minutes, let alone give advance warning at all. 😊

Thanks and looking forward to a couple minutes of cat pics!

moderated Outage report #outage

Hi All,

The Groups.io site was unreachable for 20 minutes this morning, between 3:03am and 3:23am Pacific Time. Linode, our hosting service, has to reboot all instances in their fleet as part of a process to address the Meltdown and Spectre bugs. I was notified yesterday that two of our instances would be rebooted between 3-5am. One of the instances is our main load balancer, so I knew there would be a service interruption, but since it was just a reboot, I figured it would be less than a minute, and in the middle of the night, and some time within a 2 hour window. So I didn't send out a note. I should have. I do not know why it took them 20 minutes of downtime to reboot the machine; the other instance was shutdown and rebooted immediately.

I will be adding another load balancer today to provide redundancy and prevent that from being a single point of failure in the future.

Thanks,
Mark

moderated disallow PMs by moderated members #suggestion

I'm not sure this is possible, but if it is, it would be great to disallow private responses by moderated members. We have some posting requirements in our group, and sometimes a member on moderation for violating the requirements gets around it by PM'ing people. (I know that one solution would be for our group to disable private responses, but we can't do that because we want conversations on certain subjects to be carried out offlist, and we have hashtags coded for that. Unfortunately, if we code hashtags for private reply and disable private reply in the group, the hashtag does not surmount the restriction and the message bounces with a hideous error message...something I reported awhile back and have had no news about...) So because email often has its own mind, I'm not sure this is possible but it would be very helpful.
