Since no one else is answering, I'll have a go.
I don't believe browser matters. (I have used Safari and Firefox both on Mac and Safari on iPhone.)

However check which email address she is using to sign in. That may be the problem. She needs to use the email address she has registered with Groups.io (or with the alias she has registered with Groups.io)

Or if the member is signing in from a work computer, there may be (possibly) restrictions there.
Additionally, there was a recent post from Mark about Earthlink (October 18th).

If she wanted to use more than one email address, she can set up an email alias.

If it is none of these problems, you would need to provide more info. Which browser, which operating system, etc.

Hope this helps.

Can the database column settings be made sticky? Currently if you have hidden any columns on a db page you have to re-hide them every time you navigate to the Next db page.

moderated Re: Group Guidelines notice #suggestion

Mark,

I like almost all these suggestions and will add them. The one I
personally don't like is the idea that the guidelines message should
be sent to the group itself, and therefore appear in the archives. I
don't like notification messages appearing in the archives and this
feels like a notification message ...
I concur with Duane and J. It is a notification when sent to a specific member, or sent to a member on joining, but I think not when it is posted monthly -- then it serves as a reminder.

Posting it to the group itself aids web-reading members by exposing it not only in the group's Messages pages, but also in the compendium of topics in the members' Your Groups page.

... I feel like the archives should just contain group discussions. Am
I wrong in feeling this way?
If not wrong then at least conflicted, there is the other example of Event reminders.

Granted those may be more likely to serve as a prompt for a discussion (birthday wishes and memories as replies to a birthday announcement is common in my classmate groups), whereas in many groups a discussion of the Guidelines might be considered off topic. Still, some groups might welcome discussion in reply to a Guidelines post. For example, in my classmate groups I don't plan to prevent it -- we're pretty informal and open-topic in our discussions.

Yes, that's very handy!

I would also like to suggest that Forward and Back navigation buttons be included at the top of the "View Row" display, perhaps adjacent to the permalink icon. Then we could click through the database sequentially from item to item while remaining in View Row mode.

moderated Expanded Mode, Ascending, Starting Here

When I have a large number of posts to read on the web interface, I like to read them in Expanded mode in ascending order. That allows me to go from top to bottom, using the Page Down key (or just scrolling if I was on mobile), and only occasionally having to click to go to another page. However, to get to this mode requires a little work. I have to find the first message I want to read in this mode, memorize its message number, go to Expanded mode, click on Date to switch to ascending order, which displays message #1, and then enter the message number I wanted to start with in the "Msg #" box.

Now that we have this "More" option on messages, I wonder if this can be improved. Could we add an "Expanded Mode, Ascending, Starting Here" option to the "More" menu, that would instantly switch to expanded mode in ascending order, with that message at the top? That way, I could just select the message I want to start with, and select that option from the More menu, instead of what I have to do now.

Thanks,
JohnF

moderated navigate back to "followed" list after unfollowing a topic #suggestion

After you unmute a topic, you're (reasonably) taken back to the "muted" list. But after you unfollow a topic, you're taken back to your list of groups instead of to the "followed" list. Should be fixed.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • NEW: When viewing a database row, there's now a permalink icon/link for the row.
  • NEW: When viewing an event, there's now a 'Download Event' button which will download an ICS file for just that event.
  • NEW: New hashtag options: Locked, which creates a topic and locks it immediately, and Replies Unmoderated, which for moderated groups, allows all replies to be unmoderated (excepting people who are specifically moderated).
  • NEW: Support for +sub and +unsub email commands.
  • INTERNAL: When importing Yahoo Groups, check for bogus Yahoo email addresses.
  • BUGFIX: Some reports of ICS files not being parsed correctly. I re-worked how the timezones were specified to hopefully fix the problem.
  • CHANGE: Pull larger pictures from Facebook pages.
  • BUGFIX: Subject sort in overall Topics view was not working.
  • CHANGE: Launched new search!
  • INTERNAL: Re-wrote the Postgres to ES streaming connection to not use Kafka, which was proving to be unreliable.
  • INTERNAL: Re-wrote a part of the monitoring system for efficiency and to make it easier to maintain.

Have a good weekend everybody.

I see what you mean and that, indeed, was partly why I screwed up on testing this. It's slightly unintuitive.

I'm not sure what the solution is. If by default you make all mod replies to a special notice also be special notice, but not non-mod replies, you could wind up with a broken-up conversation chain in special-notice inboxes. I am now in fact wondering whether the hashtag should make all replies, whether by mod or not, special notice. Of course if you set the tag to "replies by mods only" then only mods could reply anyway. But I'm now wondering about the ramifications of members receiving only partial conversations because some of the messages in the thread are special notices (having been sent by mods) and the others are not, and they would have holes in the thread for all of those.

Are you saying that in the default case (without the requested hashtag) you don't think a mod's reply to a special notice should go as a special notice?

I think the intended logic (that it would) is correct. At least in the least-surprise sense: it is exactly what you expected to happen in your "all-clear", and what I expected to happen in my test (which is why I chose to reply from a non-mod email). I'm not fond of the idea that this, the most likely use case (I think), would require a hashtag to enable it.

Ok, everybody, I re-tested and Mark is right. The "special" hashtag does make all replies a special notice, at least if sent by a mod. It seems the feature already exists. Sorry, everyone!
