Yes,
When editing a previously saved file = original.
Useful functions are :
Delete   means delete the whole thing including the original. As in Gone-Gone
Revert  means undo all edits since opening the file. ie Revert to original.  = Start again
Undo  means revert to the version before the last Enter
Redo means undo the last undo.

ymmv

OK,
Tony

If special notices are logged as such, I can't find it. If they're not being logged, it would be very convenient if the logging could be added. (I looked in all the group activity logs and the member activity logs, no luck.)

Changes to the site this week:

  • INTERNAL: Continued work on the new streaming pipeline from the database into the search cluster. Mostly completed; some parts are running in production now. Hopefully (finally!) complete and working next week.
  • NEW: New API endpoint /bulkremove. Also API calls can take a group_name parameter instead of a group_id parameter.
  • SYSADMIN: Migrated main web server to new hardware.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Maybe some programmers should speak for themselves. ;) I think using ‘revert’ would complicate matters, since (a) it’s used only to imply going backwards in time, and more importantly (b) the thing being acted on is the the thing (the specific edit or version or revision) being deleted or made to go ‘poof.’ It is now possible to make go poof any specific edit (except for the most current one). Specifying instead which version you want to ‘revert’ to (make current) would provide much less functionality.

If you "delete this edit" for the current version and it's the only existing version/edit, would the entire message be deleted? Or would the function not be available unless there were at least two versions?

BTW, I think the terminology "delete this edit" is strange if you're looking at the original message. Maybe "delete this version" would more closely fit all cases, namely, the original and any edits.

To my surprise, this appears to be true. When viewing the current (topmost) edit of a message the More menu contains "Delete this Message" (which does what it says) but not "Delete this Edit".

The use case here is an erroneous or improper edit which ought to be reverted to the original message.

You might simply copy and paste the original content into one final
edit, and then remove all the rest.
Yes, it appears that the only work-around is to copy/paste the original content into a new "current" edit. Then (optionally) delete the intervening edit(s) and the original message.

Be careful with the captcha. If you add a captcha and not make it accessible for the visually impaired, that is a bit of an issue. I like the idea but let's think of how we will implement this.

Hi,

From accessibility point of view, I think this should be something configurable on a group-by-group basis please.

Cheers,

moderated links to individual database rows #suggestion

It would be convenient if each row in a database could have its own link. We use the database for the basic information on each cat, and if members could include a link to their cat's row when posting, it would save responders a lot of the work needed to look the cat up in the database and/or in prior threads. We also are requesting that members provide basic info about their cats in their signatures. Being able to use a link to their cat's row in the database would make that more convenient and comprehensive.

Changes to the site this week:

  • NEW: Event RSVPs can include additional guests.
  • NEW: Logging RSVP responses to the activity log.
  • CHANGE: Hashtag alias wording clarified.
  • NEW: Group guidelines now have a Private checkbox; when checked, only members can view the guidelines.
  • BUGFIX: When paying an overdue invoice, we mistakenly reset the next payment date to next month, even for annual plans.
  • SYSADMIN: Migrated databases from Postgres 9.3 to 9.6 and from Centos 6.5 to 7. Also now using wal-g for log shipping.
  • SYSADMIN: Migrated redis to latest version.
  • CHANGE: Added labels to the form on the send invites page to hopefully help with screen readers.
  • BUGFIX: Markdown formatted calendar descriptions were treated as plain text.
  • SYSADMIN: Moved the error logging service off the main database machine.
  • BUGFIX: Long links weren't getting broken up on iPhone in the editor. Hopefully fixed.

Have a good weekend everybody.
