Yes please. No, I don't see any disadvantage with it; people who don't
want to see what they wrote can always add a filter. I suppose you could
make it switchable as I mentioned before, but I've never actually come
across anyone who specifically wanted not to see their own post through
the relay.

Hmm... If the linkifier took them maybe that's actually appropriate: they served their express purpose in delimiting the span of text to linkify and I shouldn't expect to see them in the rendered HTML.

Sorry for the needless confusion.

They are still there in the text/plain; markup=markdown part of the message body, but not in the text/html.

It converted it to a link. There's a rule about allowing some types of inline HTML. It may have thought that was what was happening. Or the part that tries to create links out of things that it thinks should be links may have done the deed (the library I'm using is https://github.com/russross/blackfriday if you're curious.

Yep, I was not converting the text to HTML. I've fixed that, so you should be able to do hard returns now.

Thanks,

Hi

It is talking about being the DEFAULT search engine.
Right now, on my Apple products, I tend to use Safari browser. I can choose from four search engines - Google, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo. This is the same on my iPhone and on my Mac Air.

I can also use other browsers. I have Firefox installed and did have Bing.
I doubt if they would change that!

A bit off-topic. Sorry!

Mark - thank you, thank you, thank you.

I just got mail yesterday that a friend, who taught me a lot about
programming and is an incredible programmer, was layed off/fired
from Yahoo. His words "he wasn't the type of <some level> programmer
they needed". He is local. They could have put him on the groups.

I just sent the following to the M&M yahoogroup, so if you see
it twice, it's on purpose. I know that a lot of folks are
reading beta more than M&M, which is why I'm sending it here.

I just realized that I have not gotten any mail that I
have sent to my -owner address for a couple of weeks.

And someone sent mail that the welcome files are not
going out either.

So I have pending members that I don't know if they got
files and we didn't get the response - or if they never
got the files. I've resorted to sending a castrated
version of the file as a message to the people, and seeing
if they can reply to me.

Oh yes - if I try to send out mail from the web site as
the -owner, it gives an error message. But I can send
as me (better anyway if the whole -owner stuff is
broken).

Anyone else finding this? Or is it our group only?

If you see this twice, I'm going to send it to the groups.io
beta list also, but not as a cc.

After using the auto quote a bit, I don't care for it. A "Quote message" added button or "Reply with quote" (in addition to "Reply") button would be preferable to me. As was mentioned in another post, folks aren't trimming since they may not realize how much was inserted.

Nothing since. I can't be sure, but it looked like I was following
the thread, even though I've never chosen that. Was there a hiccup
in the system?
No glitch; because the messages were addressed to you direct (it makes
no difference which way round a CC is), you received one.

A user option of "Do you want to receive your own posts?" was a feature

If you want a copy you have to send it from the groups webpage (or

to come from the group, Gmail knows it came from you and that message
is already in your archives. So it cannot duplicate it.
It's only Gmail's web display that does this; if you download the
messages to your email client, you see everything as you would expect.

There is a way of creating a duplicate email that fools Gmail into
thinking you're someone else and lets you read your relayed posts; I
forget the details but it's widely known and I'm sure someone will be
able to advise.

If missing the quoted text while reading on the website in
single-message or expanded view mode, there's a shortcut to view the
thread, which helps you figure out what the person is writing about.
Or would if the threads had a proper threaded view option, rather than only a chronological view.
https://groups.io/org/groupsio/beta/thread/9671

I don't know if there is a similar link in the mails that are sent out,
individually or in digest form, but it might be available with a couple
of clicks if not.
Not directly to the message in thread, but to the message. And as you say, from there it is just another click to the message in thread.

You know, you're right.
Where'd the lt...gt delimiters around the Message ID go in message #1437?

They are still there in the `text/plain; markup=markdown` part of the message body, but not in the `text/html`.

So Markdown mistook those angle brackets for part of an HTML tag, and failed to escape them? I'm almost surprised the whole email address didn't disappear (as if it were an unsupported tag), as I've seen happen in Yahoo Groups.

Looks like something needs some character escapes, at least for Markdown replies. But I wouldn't want to see them converted to HTML character entities in the Markdown text - that way lies madness for all the email clients and services that don't support the markdown parameter.

Maybe I should just avert my eyes when this stuff happens...

Happy to oblige, by being the example. :)

I have my default all set to plain text now, so hopefully it won't "eat" anymore of my quotes because I have to change it or something. :)

(And it is "legal" to include a complete post - and reply to

Hi

I get that! I wonder whether editing the text on the home page for the group might be a way of highlighting features, pointing the way to the material we have available on our own group. For example, on my own page, no wiki (but there is on the travel one where I moderate), but we do have some files that might need highlighting.
