Brian,

I selected absolute display a long while back because I really like
to know *exactly* when something posted. However, the date-time
display on the web interface has never used the "advertised" format...
Hm. I guess Mark forgot to actually remove that control:

Mark,

Yeah, like you I don't like floaters. When replying to a message, it
displays your email address (the From: line). What if I put the group
name there as well?
One possibility, at least on Desktop, might be to find room for the group name centered-ish in the blue logo bar, then make that bar non-scrolling. On mobile that may not be practical.

Or, since despite the dislike you've already got the "back to top" floater in the lower right hand corner when scrolled; you could make a floater of the group name balancing that on the left (preferably kept within the blank area of the left column). Or maybe combine their function in a (somewhat bigger) back to top. And maybe in the left column instead of lower right.

Duane,

Thanks.   I understand that there are certain things that have to be a bit different for the mobile interface simply due to screen size, space, and readability considerations.  I still think that a full display, not requiring hovering, is what's appropriate for the computer-based online interface and heaven knows there's *plenty* of space to allow that to happen.

On the desktop, you have to hover over the date/time displayed to get the full format. Took me awhile to get used to that. If I remember right, once upon a time it had the entire thing on each post, but believe that was changed as the mobile interface was incorporated. Not sure how the mobile version handles it.

This is at least slightly different from the format thread.  I selected absolute display a long while back because I really like to know *exactly* when something posted.  However, the date-time display on the web interface has never used the "advertised" format of "MMM DD, YYYY hH:MM [AM|PM]".  For anything earlier than today's date I get nothing but the date of the message.  For today's date while it remains today's date I get "hH:MM [AM|PM]" which in and of itself works just fine since without a date on the front you know implies today.

Is there some setting I need to tweak other than selecting "Absolute" for my time display in my Account Preferences in order to get full date-time to show?

You can delete a message at a time or a thread at a time. There's currently no way to select multiple threads/messages at once.

Well, that relies on your replying, which may not be happening.  For myself, I never log out and often walk away with a long thread on display somewhere in the middle.

Mind you, that doesn't pose a problem for me with regard to the beta group or GMF group, because both are "oddities" for me and stand out based on the actual content I'm looking at.  The same cannot be said of some of the other groups I read frequently.  I can see how someone flip-flopping between beta and GMF could "lose track" of which one they're looking at in the moment if they're coming back from a lengthy break.

I can't say that it really concerns me whether color change or something else where to come into use.  But whatever it is that would come into use should not rely on the reader having to perform a "second step" to differentiate where they are.  I just thought that background color was a good idea because I've seen it employed effectively at different "levels" elsewhere.  I use the "Colorful Tabs" add-on in Firefox simply because it makes it easy for me to tell one tab from another and, for any given session, I very quickly become familiar with "what's on display under what color tab" and it makes quick switching much easier than in other browsers that do not give me the luxury of that feature.

There are times when a presentation manager can be just a little too consistent, and my gut is telling me that's the case here whether or not it really has a direct impact for me or not.  It's just something worth considering.

That "breadcrumb bar" is out of my usual field of view the very moment I begin scrolling down the screen to check out what's come in on any group.   It's out of my sight while composing this message, and I show messages on the web interface in reverse chrono order, so your latest one is closest to the top of the screen, not the bottom. Hence the reason I think that it either needs to "float", probably along the left side of the screen since there's a lot of open real estate there once you get below the last item in a group's control links.

Yeah, like you I don't like floaters. When replying to a message, it displays your email address (the From: line). What if I put the group name there as well?

Personally, I still think it would be great to be able to customize one's background wash color on a per-group basis.  I'd use that a lot more than a number of the other things that can be customized in the individual group profiles.  I actually don't care for floating display elements very much and that wouldn't be my first choice if I had my druthers.

I'm ambivalent on color changes in general. And if I did add something like that, it'd probably be a premium feature.

Right. Last time I looked into this, one of the open source libraries I use, for the date picker in the calendar, only supported the one date format that we currently use. I haven't had a chance to see if it's been updated.

Supporting multiple date formats is definitely on the TODO list.

Oof. Should be fixed now.

Ronaldo,

Obviously, it you want to be international, you would need UTC, or at
least the option of UTC (which apparently is called "zulu time" in
some circles...)
Heh, well no. Choice of timezone for display is independent of choice of formatting.

But if you want Zulu time you can go into your Account and on the Preferences page select "(UTC) Monrovia, Reykjavik" as your Timezone. That's the one that will get you Zulu aka UTC time. The two other "UTC" choices do summertime adjustments (so part of the year they are actually UTC+01:00).

I agree with that.

My (somewhat humorously intended) point was that if we have a single
format, it may as well be the international standard one rather than the
US one.

Nope. On the discouraged list, along with MM/DD/YYYY as used in most of
