Well, either I'm a liar, imagining things, or Mark fixed this overnight. The blanks on my real group's home page are gone today. I've seen (and been annoyed by) the blanks so often that my feeling is that Mark simply fixed this. The duplicates from top-posting are still there so hopefully that will be next. I think that it may happen only when people use plain text email.

It's the opposite. This problem only happens when people post and then reply to photos via email. However, i've been testing it in my test group and can't reproduce it there yet, although my real group's home page is full of the blanks. I think it has to do with people who use plain-text email to post photos.

That photo section is only seen by members, just like other things on the home page that are only seen by members.

The issue is that the gaps and/or the duplicates make it an unsightly mess IMO.

I actually dont WANT any of these photos on my home page.   I see no reason for them there.   Would like an option not to have them show up there at all.   Home pages are generally open to public view (as thats where you get the info to subscribe) and photos belong in the category of messages, which is PRIVATE.    So showing photos to the public goes against the premise of groups that have their messages private.   I think our leader is on vacation tho, till after the first of the year.

It creates a patchwork of blank spaces and does not actually show the 'n' most recently posted photos as it's supposed to. So I personally would not consider this behavior acceptable. Not sure how Mark will prioritize it. Since it's a home page issue and is pretty much 'in your face,' I would give both a high-ish priority: (1) not leaving blank spaces when photos are removed, and (2) not creating the duplicates in the first place, by removing the top-posted duplicates. Both make the home page ugly IMO. The second would pretty much solve both problems, since removing a lot of photos is probably rarely done except in the case of the duplicates.

My group's home page is now brimming with photo duplicates, because whenever one person sends a photo by email, anybody who responds to it includes the same photo in their message. Even if the photo "text" is recognized by the system as part of a top post, and the photo is therefore subsumed in ellipses within the actual displayed message, the photo is not removed from that section on the home page. It keeps appearing, again and again. And again. And just when you think it's stopped, again...

This clutters up the home page. It also takes space, interest, and exposure away from other, legitimately and recently posted photos, And it counts towards the storage used. (This is not a problem in my group yet, but at some point could necessitate the removal of the entire messages.) Furthermore, simply deleting the photos from the "posted photos" page creates unsightly blank gaps on the home page's "recently posted photos" section. Removing them does not restore space to the other photos.

It would be great, if possible, for photos that are the result of an email top-post to be removed.

This happens to me also and I have been going in the folder called email and deleting them to free up space. It is very time consuming.

Subject: [beta] remove duplicated photos due to top posting #suggestion

I just fixed it. You can't set a image size for the group. When you put unlimited the stationary comes in the right way. Hurray!
