Mark,I may be daft but I can't see how to make a member a moderator KnyttWytch (so much to do, so little time!) http://www.knyttwytch.co.uk/tempewytchs-crafts-and-s/ http://www.knyttwytch.co.uk/tempewytchhealthyliving/ http://www.knyttwytch.co.uk/tempewytchrecipesdone/

Re: Easy yahoo group transfer instructions
Step 2 #2 I'd suggest that everyone use the same format so it would be easier for you to process things. Have two lines at the top reading:
yg=yahoogroupname io=groupsiogroupname or whatever would make it easiest. You could make it at least semi-automatic after just a quick check for consistency. Step 3 I think the email should say something like "You have been subscribed to the new group using your Yahoo account settings." instead of "Your subscription has been transfered to the new group." Otherwise, folks might think their account on Yahoo is no longer active. There may be some owners that would want to run parallel for awhile, as long as they understand there will really be two groups, one on each service. Could the final email to GROUPNAME+owner@groups.io possibly contain a list of those that were moderators or co-owners of the Yahoo group? Might make it easier for them to add privileges if those folks aren't already on Groups. The group owners on Yahoo would need to tell folks what's going to happen and when, so there won't be too many surprises. I'd hope that they'd already have their files, photos, whatever copied over and mostly be ready to run. Duane

Re: Easy yahoo group transfer instructions
Mark,
Please let me know what you think. Are the instructions clear? Am IThe symbol GROUPNAME is used as a placeholder for both the name of the Yahoo Group and the name of the Groups.io group. Admittedly in different contexts, but since the names might well be different perhaps distinct symbols would be helpful. In particular symbols that imply the service might be best. -- Shal

Linda
Hi Mark,
https://groups.io/static/transfer This is beautifully done - perfect! I think it would be important for the group owner to know the timing of the transfer. A Special Notice would have to go out to the members to prepare them to expect the Groups.io email. Otherwise they might assume it's spam or phishing. Thanks! Linda

Re: New Subscription Options
Linda
Hi Mark,
https://groups.io/static/newsubpage So much simpler ~ *way* better! For clarity, I'd suggest changing Advanced Options to Advanced Preferences (Optional) Someone suggested that folks choosing No Mail should have to provide a verified email address so they can be reachable by an owner (Special Notices). In that case No Email except Special Notices would be great wording. Eliminates concerns about privacy at work. Thanks! Linda

Moderation issues & is it a bug?
#bug
Mark, Last night I used the new button for approve post and unmoderate member in MMSanctuary. However, when I went to the member's details, they were still on moderation and I had to manually unmoderate the member. Is this a bug or was it just not working yet? Also, is it possible to separate the two moderator privileges "Modify Group Settings" & "Delete Group?" I would feel more comfortable if only the owner(s) could delete the group, but I was trying to give someone the ability to modify group settings. Thanks Brenda

Can you explain to me, how Shal was able to reply to my message in a different group when my message was not in the Beta group? My original post was not in Beta, so how was he able to reply to it from Beta.... Still confused.... Brenda

I think so. I think that would alleviate a lot of confusion. I also think of archives as older messages not current threads being posted in.

Not ever. I like lots of info. :) Just tell me how to prevent it from happening again? Was it something I did wrong? If so, please help me prevent it from happening again. And why did it jump me out of my group into Beta when I replied? After I sent the reply, I was no longer in my tab, I was in Beta's tab. Thanks, Brenda

Re: New Subscription Options
Mark,
So, if in Message Selection, I have All Messages checked, you thinkCorrect. It also supports Brenda's use case of collecting all messages in email (as a personal archive) but using the web features (Inbox, Followed Threads) for day-to-day reading. ... and made the whole Message Selection area a collapsed advancedI like that a lot better than having an option hiding somewhere in one's profile, or worse in the group's settings. Another idea, rather than the Advanced Options opener, might be to insert a block of introductory text as the first element in Message Selection, above the All Messages selection. You could use it to promote the feature while simultaneously labeling it as advanced. For example: "This is an advanced feature unique to Groups.io but modeled on web-based forums. With this option you can limit your email traffic to just the topic threads or subject #Hashtags you are interested in. Leave this set to the default, "All Messages", if you prefer standard mailing list behavior." -- Shal

I vote yes. Messages makes more sense. When I think of Archives, I think of something in storage, historical documents, and such.

Trying to wrap my head around things. Let me see if I have it correct: So, if in Message Selection, I have All Messages checked, you think that I should also be able to check Auto Follow Replies. The reasons being: if I've muted a hashtag, I'll still want to see any threads with that hashtag that I've replied in. Also, it's a way to quickly see on the web which threads I've participated in, by just looking at the Followed Threads tab. Is that correct? I've updated https://groups.io/static/newsubpage , breaking out auto follow replies into it's own thing, and made the whole Message Selection area a collapsed advanced options area. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Mark

Re: cover photo
Why not just let people upload images as they like, and displayI think Jim and Shal's idea is reasonable and worth trying. I use a full width graphic that includes the group name and the current shifting size causes problems at the top and edges. I would also like to see the option of the name overlaying the graphic be changed to transparent or not shown, since it is extraneous to my group header. Please see https://groups.io/org/groupsio/MILW to understand the situation I'm talking about. Dano
