Can you explain to me, how Shal was able to reply to my message in a different group when my message was not in the Beta group? My original post was not in Beta, so how was he able to reply to it from Beta....

Still confused....

I think so. I think that would alleviate a lot of confusion. I also think of archives as older messages not current threads being posted in.

So I vote Yes.

Not ever. I like lots of info. :)

Just tell me how to prevent it from happening again? Was it something I did wrong? If so, please help me prevent it from happening again.

And why did it jump me out of my group into Beta when I replied? After I sent the reply, I was no longer in my tab, I was in Beta's tab.

Thanks,

Is that true? If so, how would I say, edit or add a hashtag to that thread? Should I copy the post into another reply box and change the subject/hashtag there?

When viewing a thread, at the top right is a 'Edit Thread' button that will let you edit the subject line/change options.

And default Message View:

I might be wrong, but didn't you say that if we went into a default message view, that it would be remembered and stay in that order during our session? Mine isn't. Or is that something you haven't implemented yet?

Not yet implemented.

Mark,

So, if in Message Selection, I have All Messages checked, you think
that I should also be able to check Auto Follow Replies. The reasons
being: if I've muted a hashtag, I'll still want to see any threads
with that hashtag that I've replied in. Also, it's a way to quickly
see on the web which threads I've participated in, by just looking at
the Followed Threads tab. Is that correct?
Correct. It also supports Brenda's use case of collecting all messages in email (as a personal archive) but using the web features (Inbox, Followed Threads) for day-to-day reading.

... and made the whole Message Selection area a collapsed advanced
options area. Let me know what you think.
I like that a lot better than having an option hiding somewhere in one's profile, or worse in the group's settings.

Another idea, rather than the Advanced Options opener, might be to insert a block of introductory text as the first element in Message Selection, above the All Messages selection. You could use it to promote the feature while simultaneously labeling it as advanced. For example:

"This is an advanced feature unique to Groups.io but modeled on web-based forums. With this option you can limit your email traffic to just the topic threads or subject #Hashtags you are interested in. Leave this set to the default, "All Messages", if you prefer standard mailing list behavior."

I vote yes. Messages makes more sense. When I think of Archives, I think of something in storage, historical documents, and such.

Trying to wrap my head around things. Let me see if I have it correct: So, if in Message Selection, I have All Messages checked, you think that I should also be able to check Auto Follow Replies. I've updated https://groups.io/static/newsubpage , breaking out auto follow replies into it's own thing, and made the whole Message Selection area a collapsed advanced options area. Let me know what you think.

Why not just let people upload images as they like, and display
them as sent, possibly with an option to have them aligned left,
centre or right (with centre as the default).
I think Jim and Shal's idea is reasonable and worth trying. I use a full width graphic that includes the group name and the current shifting size causes problems at the top and edges.

I would also like to see the option of the name overlaying the graphic be changed to transparent or not shown, since it is extraneous to my group header. Please see https://groups.io/org/groupsio/MILW to understand the situation I'm talking about.

Shal, just about anything is better than having to figure out if the image
will fit, find out it doesn't and have to try again. I finally had to have
a friend of mine that is very good with Paint Shop Pro to fix the image for
my group so it looked right.

This has really been a sore point with a lot of Yahoo owners/moderators
trying to resize so it meets the criteria.

Jim,

I don't speak for Mark, but is usually done because every member's window
might be a different width, and modern design sensibilities abhor having
variable blank space around a fixed size image. And a fixed size image is
inevitably a screen hog on one's mobile device but a postage stamp on
another's large-screen monitor.

Those are additional complications. It isn't "simple and easy to use" if you
have to tell the user to pre-process the image into a certain pixel size.
Many users aren't proficient with any image editing tools.

What might be nice is an uploader that allows the user to upload any image
and see a "live" preview that allows the user to zoom and pan the image
within a rectangle representing the cover image display. In other words,
provide a simple size and crop tool. Maybe it needs both a "max"
and a "min" rectangle: always crop down to the max, but never crop smaller
than the min. Then users with a logo or other specific art can use the min
rectangle to ensure that the important part of the image shows.

What I suggested was a lot simpler (for Mark, but maybe not for the
user): a simple checkbox that's useful for users that have a logo or
otherwise fully prepared image, but not too helpful for a user with a photo
of which they'd like to use only a portion.

And note that none of this required the user to think about pixel sizes:
the pixels would be resampled automatically as needed to fit the selected
portion of the image into the display window.

That sounds like a good alternative. I think I'd like Message Archives a bit better.  Gee, too bad there's not a POLL function on this site. (VBG)

Hi

I vote yes - Messages.

Clearer than Archives.

It is familiar - YahooGroups uses Messages within the body of the page, as in “3 messages added in the last 7 days” and “New Messages”. Not “Conversations” which YG uses for its dropdown menu.
