locked Re: FBL turned on for aol.com members

Brenda,

I have a friend who was unsubscribed from my Hollow Tree group, who
isn't even using AOL, she uses Yahoo. It claims she marked a message as
spam, and I'm trying to reach her, (she's long distance) to find out if
that is true.
There is a thread in GMF on this topic, I'd love to have a reply over there
if she can forward a (redacted for privacy) copy of any notice(s) she received, or a link to any Yahoo information on the subject.

However, is Yahoo doing the same thing as AOL in this case? Do you
know?
Yes, Mark mentioned it here (beta@), I don't use Yahoo Mail so I don't know first-hand.

Let's hope not. That would throw a lot of people into a quandary.

Okay, I'm catching up from August 15th on.

John explained there is a lock icon now at the top of the message, in front of the subject line.

However, there is still a reply option at the bottom of the post, and I thought there was going to be a change to that, I thought it was supposed to say "locked" or "this thread is locked" or "locked topic."

Am I missing something here? Clicking on the reply link doesn't do anything, but I thought it wasn't supposed to be there at all.

Thanks,

Brenda

locked For Mark -- A request

Nightowl >8#

Mark,

Would it be possible to change the lock-topic time to 4 weeks instead of 2?

There are often things that cause real life to delay people for roughly a month. For example, my 93 yr old Dad literally died this month, his heart stopped, and then for no explained reason, started up again. He's ok now, but gave us quite a scare.

Since then, I've had my hands full with family, Dad, and the Veteran's Home, plus been struggling emotionally, and that is why I've been unable to stay caught up in here despite really trying.

I hope you'll consider making the lock-topic 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks.

Thank you sincerely,

Brenda

Great- Thanks Mark I take it the change is in effect moving forward- but that any names that had already been applied will not transfer to the subgroups ?

Makes perfect sense to me. I don't use subgroups myself yet, but I can't imagine why someone would want to use a displayname in a subgroup that's different from the one in the main group.

This is now live.

locked Disable file upload notification?

Duane

I've had a problem with a member always notifying the group when uploading a file. Not the end of the world, but they change the file and send another notification, sometimes several times - very annoying. I don't know how difficult it would be, but I'd like to see a checkbox for the group owner to disable that notification, per group, in the group settings.

Thanks,
Duane

Mark,

Thanks. That's strange. I must be remembering from Yahoo. :-)

It has not changed recently and has always behaved that way.

locked Re: Certificate errors?

Just to follow up on this, it turns out the problem was with an anti-virus program the person was running on her machine. Once it was disabled, the correct certificate was loaded and the problem was fixed.

I see your new certificate OK on my end.  My questions for the person experiencing it would be:

1. Which browser/operating system?  (Mobile?)

2. Does Control-F5 fix the problem?  (Mobile: Reload, or delete cache.)

3. Is this user using an SSL proxy server?  (They probably won't know what this is.)

4. What does the certificate in the error say?  (Maybe someone really is trying to spoof the site for this user.)

Though the new certificate should be picked up regardless of all that.

I know you switched versions recently (from the one with the gray headers to the one with the blue headers).  Is there any chance the version with the gray headers is still out there somewhere, with the old certificate, accessible by whatever this person is doing?

locked Re: Transfer of groups and Subgroups

Sharon,

1. When a list is transferred do the members still appear on the old
list after transfer of the list?
Yes. The Easy Groups Transfer does not make any changes to the Yahoo Group (or Google Group). It might more accurately be called a "Copy".

2. Do members of subgroups have to first join the main list. (I’m
hoping yes).
Yes.

These and other questions are welcome in the user-to-user help groups. See also Mark's message #10525 regarding Changes to beta@ to reduce the traffic here.

locked Certificate errors?

Hi All,

I received a report of someone experiencing a certificate error when accessing the Groups.io website. I renewed our certificate several weeks ago, and my guess is that somehow their browser is still seeing the old certificate. But I have no idea why this would happen. Please let me know if you or any of your members experience this.

Thanks,
Mark

1. When a list is transferred do the members still appear on the old list after transfer of the list? I’m thinking if they stay I can set an automatic reply to new messages to send them to the new list address. When need for these messages stops, I can delete everything from the old list.

2. Do members of subgroups have to first join the main list. (I’m hoping yes).

locked Re: BUG: Digest in wrong format #bug

ACK! Never mind. I'm suffering from RED FACE SYNDROME. Just realized that the digest was from the old YAHOO version of the group, not groups.io.

Sigh. Great way to start off Monday. Sigh.

But, it I stick by the DRAFT DISCARD problem I found while trying to report this NON-problem. :-)

locked search for messages with attachments #suggestion

I'm starting to go through old posts to remove obsolete posts with attachments, to save on storage. (I don't plan on upgrading this group in the near future, since it is an all-volunteer undertaking.) In the process, I realized that a feature allowing you to search just for messages with attachments would come in handy in this and possibly other situations.
