For clarification, I've added pictures to Wiki pages, but it's a bit of a challenge. An easier way would certainly be appreciated.

In addition to being able to add pics to the database (another thread), It would also be useful if we could add photos to wiki pages.

Thank you!

locked Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • INTERNAL: More logging to try to track down slow database connection issue.
  • NEW: Track bounces of direct adds and posts to subs.
  • NEW: Footers in post to subs messages.
  • CHANGE: Process FBL reports from AOL.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed unsub notifications.
  • INTERNAL: Logging of content type when uploading files of people to invite/add
  • SYSADMIN: Changed postgres database parameters to better utilize memory.
  • BUGFIX: When direct adding people, send out the group welcome message.
  • INTERNAL: Work on supporting enterprise version.
  • NEW: Subgroups page.
  • BUGFIX: After doing a search in activity, clearing the search field and doing another search would use the old search term.
  • NEW: Moved all admin functions into a new Admin dropdown in the sidebar.
  • SYSADMIN: Renewed SSL certificate.
  • BUGFIX: In summernote, if a url is the last line of a document, and it gets autolinked, that change wasn't synced to the dom, so we'd never see it.
  • BUGFIX: We weren't sending out unsub notifications when people who were direct added unsubscribed via the link in the direct add email.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed link display in databases for links missing titles.
  • CHANGE: In the link dialog in summernote, if enter is pressed, don't do a form submit. Also, for new links, don't display anything in the URL field.

Have a good weekend, everybody!

J,

I would like, however, to be able to cull (remove members from) that
list if and when it starts to bog down (or other reasons).
I concur with that idea.

It could be an Action menu item after selecting one or more former member records in the list. With the appropriate warning that it is a permanent removal of the information.

J,

I don't know what the upshot is here, and what we should do in general
regarding our AOL members. ...
This may not relate directly to delivery problems experienced by specific group members, but automatically unsubscribing those who mark a message from your group as spam might improve deliverability to all other members using that service.

That at least is the hope: less trouble overall for users of AOL and like-minded services.

The specific members unsubscribed by this mechanism may come back to you looking for answers. I'm not sure what help you can give them, particularly if they don't think they've marked any group messages as spam.

Since this incident (and similar ones) I have started to advise my group
members not to use an AOL address for Groups.io groups.
One upside(?) is that the affected members may come to that conclusion on their own if they are repeatedly unsubscribed by this mechanism. The flip side of that is that they may hold it against Groups.io as well or instead.

Mark,

Here's the notification. Please let me know if you have suggestions for
 improvements:

How about this:

-----
Hello,

Because {{provider}} reported to us that you have marked one or more messages from {{.Group.Emai}} as spam, you have been automatically removed from the group. You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 3 days by clicking the following link:

{{Resub Link}}

Groups.io offers several options for controlling how much and what types of emails to receive. See this Help Center article for more information:

https://groupsio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202739445

If this happens repeatedly please check with {{provider}} to learn about how they decide to send feedback reports to list services (such as Groups.io).

Cheers,
The Groups.io Team
-----

I don't use any of the services which you cited as providing such reports, so that last paragraph may be misguided - I don't know if the services provide help pages or otherwise provide a means for their users to learn about this feedback. I wouldn't want to advise the user to do something impossible (get relevant info from their provider).

LOVE this idea. It would be really convenient, with all the info that Shal outlines here. I would like, however, to be able to cull (remove members from) that list if and when it starts to bog down (or other reasons).

As do I, especially if it ties in to what Mark mentioned in the mid year roadmap:

No, I just wanted to know whether we could already easily find the information, rather than you having to provide another means to get it. And I was hoping to still get the profile in addition to the info.

locked Status update request (1) Multiple profiles; (2) Anonymous groups

Jennifer Christian

Hi, all -

Has there been any substantial development progress made or a revised forecast for availability of these two items:

(1) Multiple profiles, so users can vary the facts they reveal about them to groups focused on various topics

(2) Anonymous groups?

Again, my understanding of the anonymous groups are that:

  • At the time of group set-up, owner selects an option to keep all members identities' private when the group is set up --it is NOT at the member's option.
  • No direct reply member to member is possible -- ALL replies go to the group as a whole (or to the moderators/owners).
  • There is substitution or masking of members' entire email address in the "sent" field, message header, etc.
  • The moderators will be responsible for assuring there is no ID data in the message text itself.

Mark had originally predicted that this functionality would be ready for testing in early September.  Wondering whether it has gotten onto a back burner given all the other development work in the interim.  Our own projects in this arena are on a back burner, waiting.

Cordially,

Jennifer Christian

Mark,

Please let me know if you hear from members who have been unsubscribed
this way who claim they have not marked any messages as spam. One
question to ask them is to look in their spam folders to see if any
messages from us are in there inadvertently. Also, I'm open to
suggestions for ways to improve this system.
I haven't heard from any, and haven't seen the "Dear John" message you send them, but if it doesn't I think it should make very clear that your action was taken at AOL's request - that AOL told Groups.io that he/she (the unsubscribed person) had marked group messages as spam.

You could elaborate a bit further and suggest that if they find this happening repeatedly that they should contact AOL about the how and why of these reports.

Mark,

Is there anything else you're looking for?
I was thinking in terms of retaining a static copy of their Subscription page.

That would be particularly of interest if there are any entries in their Activity History which are not also present in the group's logs. I hope there aren't any, but for all the same reasons you provide this per-member log it could be convenient to see it for former members.

Access to the former member's Email Delivery History might also be useful, especially in the case where they were unsubscribed automatically due to expiration of the bounce mechanism. Or maybe by operation of the FBL.

Access to their +owner Messages and Notes might also be of interest. For example, in discussing with other moderators why this member was removed or banned.

Which naturally leads to the idea of keeping a list of Former Members, adding to our collection of Members, Bouncing, Banned, and Pending.

What happens if the person has a Groups.io profile? Would we get this proposed "all activities" search, or would we get just their profile, as we get now? Is there a way to get both?

I suppose I could have it have a link to their profile.

Would the activities search give us anything beyond what we can get right now by doing our own activities search?

No, it'd be the same thing. Is there anything else you're looking for?
