Apparently not to some, my OP quote was from a beta topic.

Plus even for folks who do know about it, they still don't always make the connection because of the lack (so far) of the regular search box on that landing page and so they try Ctrl+F on that landing page and it doesn't work so it confuses them a bit.

All we're doing is giving them a hint.

Probably not as well-known as it should be.  I have people that have trouble clicking on a link. ;>)

Suggestion for the less-savvy users

Hi Nina,

We have pointed something like this a few times in the past to GMF/GH/beta posters:

> I have never been able to find a search feature within help.
For this you select the "single page" version of the help file, then use your browser search/find function, often CTRL+F.  If you have the pdf version, just use the search in the reader (also CTRL+F in Acrobat.)

My suggestion is to add something to that effect in the two bullets under the title, in the member manual at least, although there are also mods who are not that savvy, so we could also add it in the owner manual as well.

Maybe append " (use Ctrl+F to search)" to the bullet texts or add another separate line or something.

Thanks and cheers,
Christos

Hi, Duane. I added that text and also added that clicking the checkbox selects the member’s row for use with the Actions button.

Thank you for the suggestion!

You should post this request in the beta group because it pertains to the features of Groups.io.

This is my fault. I asked him to post to docs.

Consider the suggestion registered, no need to post on beta.

Thanks,

I would like to have this button for my Premium group. I don't want to confirm for them or have them do it themselves. They have not responded to the first confirmation request, and I want to ask them one more time.

Thank you.

Sorry Duane, I did not make that clear. I really only want to do only one thing: send them another confirmation request. I understand any response would be "requiring them to do it themselves."

Why: I want to send them one more confirmation request, as they did not respond to the first.

Thank you.

This text in the Owners's Manual says:

This notice can be sent automatically when you add members to the group directly. You can customize the text further, if needed, at the time you are direct adding someone, but be aware that the further customization is not saved to the notice—it applies only to that one-time use.

First quibble:

The third word 'can' wrongly implies the possibility of not sending such a notice.

A Direct Add notice is always sent. If the owner or a moderator has not created a custom notice and set it to Active Message, the system activates and uses a default.

Second quibble:

Yes, it's always sent but this implies the owner can supply a complete replacement message. What is actually sent is THE notice with some optional additional text from the owner.

Malcolm.

There are two ways to clear the badge - you confirm for them or they do it themselves.  If they go to the web site, there will be a notice that they haven't confirmed and will have the opportunity to send themselves another email they can reply to.  You can click Confirm in their member record.  I believe they will also be confirmed if a membership request is approved for a Restricted, Premium group.  In that case they've likely 'proven' themselves, probably by answering a Pending Subscription notice.  I don't really see a need for a Premium group to have the "Send Confirmation Email" button, so there's no mention of it for Premium/Enterprise groups.  The manual says "In a Basic group, you can send another confirmation email message to a Not Confirmed member and hope that they respond to it."

Send Confirmation Email button not found #bug

Jim Wilson

Per the Owners Manual at https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-members/handling-members-marked-as-not-confirmed?single=true

Members who have not yet responded to the confirmation email message sent by Groups.io are marked with a Not Confirmed  badge in the member list.

In Premium or Enterprise groups, moderators can confirm members directly. That feature is not available in Basic groups. In a Basic group, you can send another confirmation email message to a Not Confirmed member and hope that they respond to it:

  1. Display the member list.
  2. Click in the row of the member who has a Not Confirmed badge to display that member’s individual page.
  3. Go to the bottom of that page and click the Send Confirmation Email button.

As owner of a Premium group, I seem to recall the "✔ Confirm" button merely confirms the user manually.

Even if I choose "Send Message," I do not see a "Send Confirmation Email" button or option for a pending subscriber anywhere:

Nor do I see the option for two existing members who apparently were never "confirmed" previously:

Is this a bug? Or, if I choose "Send Message" to request their reply and they actually reply to that message, will the  then be cleared?

Re: "P" badge title clarification suggestion

It would not be “additional” if called “All Posts Allowed” instead of “Posting Always Allowed.” It may not be parallel syntax with the other badge explanations (I haven’t checked) but for me, Posting Always Allowed does nothing to clarify beyond Can Post. I would still think, “Huh, what are they talking about? This group is unmoderated anyway.” My two cents.

It’s even fewer letters. :-)

I think additional explanatory info about all the “Override” member moderation settings could go in the Moderating individual members topic, with links to it from the Member badges topic. I didn’t have time to do that this week, so I’ll put it on my list for a future update.

Thank you for the suggestions!

< ... is she done??? maybe I should wait before repl>

<oops...>

You're right I missed the explain bit.  Here's a couple of possibilities:

Explain and point to the setting:

Posting Always Allowed      The member can post without moderation even in a moderated topic. (Override: not moderated)

or keep it closer to the existing text, point to the setting, then add explain qualifier:

Posting Always Allowed      The member’s posting privilege is set to Override: not moderated. (even in a moderated topic)
(or fully-sentenced, "not moderated, even in a moderated topic.")

Either way, it should be crystal and crystal clear now.  Good catch!

Re: Member Badges #suggestion

I added NM to the table of badges in the Member badges topic in the Owners Manual. I didn’t add the “Non Member” badge to that table because it appears only when someone views a pending message sent by a nonmember.

I also added info about those badges to the description of the Allow Nonmembers to Post setting in the Owners Manual.

Thank you for the feedback!

Nina. The Owners Manual has a section about Member Badges with a list in 34.4.1 in the pdf version.

However, there are two badges not listed although strictly speaking they refer to non - members rather than members. Both appear if a group is set to allow non - member posts; those posts are always moderated and the first badge, NM appears against the non - member's email address when in the Pending List. When the message is selected for review prior to acceptance or rejection the NM is expanded to read Non Member

Could these be added to the list please? I can see that "Member Badges" might not be the best place for badges relevant to non members so it may be that the section about non - member posts might be a better place for them. (In which case a "see also" at the bottom of the member badge table might be helpful)

The badges used to be blue but at my suggestion Mark has just changed them to red; I have held off making the request for their inclusion until Mark had the time to respond to my request one way or another, and he has now done that. :)

Chris

Nina,

In the Members' Manual Adding Photos (16.4 in the pdf version) is the sentence (under Note:) If the Add Photos button is not available, either the group has reached its storage limit or members are not allowed to add photos to the group.

There is, however, a third reason why a member might have no Add Photos button available, and that is if the Album Owner has set the album to Personal Access rather than Group Access.

Could you possibly work the above into the Manual?

Thanks,

Chris
