Re: Missing +1 email command (Like) info from the User Manual #suggestion

That’s why I asked. Christos’s message seemed to imply that the fact that the “disable” option is documented only for Enterprise groups is a mistake. But it’s not a mistake to document it only there if only Enterprise groups have the option.

Yes, there's no Enterprise Settings panel for the other types which is where the control is.

Hi Nina,

The email version of clicking the Like button online is not documented in the User manual, and there only a somewhat-cryptic one-liner mention of it in the Owner's manual, and in the Enterprize group section no less, which most folks don't read:

Disable +1 Functionality
Select this checkbox to disable the automatic conversion of +1 email messages to likes.

Many folks have no idea the feature exists (meself included up to only a few months ago).  Here's the latest instance this was mentioned:
https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/29593

A small paragraph about it in the User manual could be helpful.  Come to think about it, there's even no mention at all of the (online) "Like' functionality itself anywhere in the User manual, so this could be a good opportunity to add Like info somewhere, maybe in the "Working with messages" section.

Thanks and Cheers,

Re: Documentation on approving and rejecting members/subscriptions

FYI, the link URLs in the HTML versions of the manuals currently are generated from the topic titles, so changing titles will change the URLs and break any links to those topics from outside the manuals (I can, of course, update internal links). If/when there comes a time when Mark is able to generate non-title-based links (permalinks) to the topics in the manuals, I’ll take these comments under advisement.

Thank you for the feedback.

I still think titles could be clearer and cleaner. The ones starting with "managing" x, y, or z have the same issue as "handling." And grouping sections by the word "handling" or "managing," when alphabetical, doesn't seem helpful.

When I'm looking for something in the manuals, I either use the single page view or the PDF, then use the search function.  Hasn't failed me yet.  Once I got familiar with the manuals, the titles made more sense.

Re: Documentation on approving and rejecting members/subscriptions

I think that in this case, as well as possibly some (even many) others, the word "handling" as the beginning of a section title is less than descriptive and could be more specific. Many sections' titles start with the word "handling." In this case, I was searching the document for "approving" or "rejecting" and only found titles containing those for messages, not members. Even if the word "handling" were removed from many of these sections, if would be easier to find what you're looking for - e.g., just "pending members" (or "subscriptions" - again, this is inconsistent and somewhat confusing in titles, when one is searching) instead of "handling pending members." Because the fact that you are "handling x, y, or z is a given. The word "handling" doesn't add any information.

That's covered in https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-members/handling-pending-members under the Overview section, specifically the Note: area.  It also covers approving, rejecting, and claiming.

Documentation on approving and rejecting members/subscriptions

1. I can't find a section about rejecting a membership/subscription - in particular, the 14-day drop-off. I was about to report a bug because the 14-day limit didn't cause the pending member to be deleted. Then I thought, "Maybe it's because I claimed the pending member." So decided to look in the docs, but found nothing in general about approving or rejecting pending members/subscriptions. So now I'm wondering whether the 14-day thing even applies or if I just imagined it, etc. etc. etc. Should be some documentation on approving/rejecting pending members/subscriptions. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

2. In the above I kept feeling that I had to write "members/subscriptions," because the terminology in the docs is inconsistent. There's a section called "removed member" and a section called "rejected subscription." I was looking for "rejected member." I would like to see use of "subscription" vs. "member" or "membership" be more consistent.

Got it. That's a limitation of the conversion code right now. I'll add it to the TODO list to fix.

Thanks,

Owners Manual #suggestion

Duane

I've started reading the April 16 version of the Owners manual.  I'm only up to 5.3 so far, but I've got a couple of suggestions.

Section 3.3.6
Change ", via credit card," to ", via credit card or Paypal,"  ref: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/28236

Section 3.6.1
in the Note, add ", even though the site does some checking for known spammers." at the end.  ref: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/28940 on March 30 and https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/29144 on April 15.

Thanks,
Duane

Re: Locked groups clarification #suggestion

Hi, Andy. I added information about downgraded groups getting locked if they have over 100 members to the Locked Group notice topic and a couple other topics in the Owners Manual (see the revision history).

Thank you for the suggestion!

Hi Nina,

the Owner's Manual refers to a Locked Group Notice and says that only Premium and Enterprise groups can be locked. This may be true for someone manually locking/unlocking a group but a basic group that has been downgraded from premium can also be locked if the membership count exceeds 100 since the per member pricing was introduced.  Can we add some clarification here?

Thanks
Andy

Members Manual, 7.6 bullet 3 needs to be changed to say, "Messages with hashtag issues will be bounced."  Ref: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/27632  (It was corrected in the Owners Manual, but not the Members.)
