More and more members are abandoning their desktop and laptop devices and going using their mobile device as their primary network interface. I believe the platform being proposed as the new one is not as robust as groups.io but the key missing piece is the mobile device app. For some reason there is great pressure to not use an email based interface on the mobile device.

Realistically, it will go on Testflight for testing in 2 weeks. But it won't be ready for final release for maybe two months.

Out of curiosity, can you say what the other platform is that they are considering?

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

I don't want to keep bugging you about the app but I'm coming up very quickly on a go/no-go deadline with respect to abandoning our group's use of groups.io for the River City Gems group. The group is moving toward a platform with full support for mobile devices. More and more members are abandoning their desktop and laptop devices and going using their mobile device as their primary network interface. I believe the platform being proposed as the new one is not as robust as groups.io but the key missing piece is the mobile device app. For some reason there is great pressure to not use an email based interface on the mobile device.

I think I can hold off the board of directors for maybe two to four weeks but after that we might have to move off groups.io unless I can get some time on the new app and maybe have a date when it will be available for general release.

I would like to stay with groups.io because I like the feature set. Any info you could provide would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Joanie

Duane, thanks for the head up. I'm not sure how to contact Mark "off list". I'm not sure what that means. I went to the groups.io directory and sent Mark an email from there but have not seen a response. Is that the correct method? Regards, Joanie

He was on holiday/vacation for most of the time, but was also hunkered down trying to get the new version of the app ready as noted in my first link above.

I sent him a couple of messages more than 2 weeks ago and never received a reply, so good luck.

Mark mentioned about a month ago that the app is being redone using web site templates, so it might be worth waiting for the newer version.  https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/27115 and more recently at https://beta.groups.io/g/api/message/225

I would like to download it and test it too. I'm currently affiliated with a non-profit group that uses groups.io for communication to our members. I also run my own social groups on groups.io. All my members are screaming for a mobile device interface. I would love to participate in the beta.

Joanie

iOS app expiring from TestFlight #iOS

Mark,

FYI: The iOS app in TestFlight will expire on Monday morning around 6 AM Pacific time. You announced in https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/27115 that you were going back to the drawing board on the mobile app(s), to develop a system for syncing them with the code that runs the Groups.io website. I'm just wondering if, while that system is still in development, you are going to "re-up" the iOS app TestFlight for the beta testers to keep using.

Two related message sorting and display issues #suggestion

Peter Cook

While using GIO I move back and forth quite a bit between my laptop and the iOS app. There are two inconsistencies between the two that makes it a bit harder for me when I'm going from one to the other. It would helpful if these were changed to be consistent.

  • In the topic list, the date/time shown below a topic with more than one message is that of the newest message on the website, and the oldest message on the app.
  • When opening a topic with more than one message, the default sort has the newest message shown at the top, and the oldest on the app.
Thanks!

bugs when approving members #Android #bug

Wolfram Schneider

The Android app does not allow to approve new members and doesn’t show all the pre-defined notices.

  1. Bug 1: The link “1 pending Sub” in the main screen does not work. It is crucial that this link works for a quick approval of new members rather than going trough all the menu navigation.
  2. Bug 2: “Approve” link does not work in pending approval. (I did not check the other options because in my group we normally approve all requests.)
  3. Bug 3: “Send messages” does not show all the notices from the group. I have a message “additional info required” that is not showing, but I wanted to send to this member before approving
